HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Let's start this off with a proper hello! This last year marked a lot of activity for my Chaos Blog. Although towards the end of 2010 my activity here did fall off due to a massive Valhallan IG project for gamesday I still took some time to build my chaos forces when I had time. As you can see by my recent Chaos Apocalypse post the forces under the command of Arkos are still strong and growing each day. With the split of my imperial forces to another blog the content here will be pure Chaos and forces of disorder now. I am also going to be cutting back on my participation in the Tournament scene. I have done the rounds in the tournament scene for the last few years, and I am now at the point where I enjoy the painting and building hobby aspect of this hobby more then going from tournament to tournament. I still enjoy the casual gaming but with the battle bunker now gone, my casual gaming has been dropping off, still this doesn't mean I will not play anyone who want to throw down. In fact if plans go in the direction they are heading, I will see my share of gaming soon. The Ineptus Astartes club is planning to host a good size Escalation League and this blog will see a lot of action because of this event I hope. So let me share with you some thoughts on where I see the forces of Disorder are heading this year......
Alpha Legion and Legion of the Dragon: The primary force behind this blog. My Alpha Legion has been slowly working up this past year and right now it looks like they will be hiding among the stars for the foreseeable future. I still have 30 CSM troops to paint for this army, along with a Predator conversion, and possibly a Vindicator to go with the army. As for the LoD the IG Renegade forces have slowed down a lot to almost no action at this time. Mostly because of my involvement in my Valhallan army, one IG force at a time. Still I'm thinking about getting my Malcador tanks finally finished this year, along with a rattling force made out of Chaos Squats to join this force. I will also attempt to finish off the last platoon to bring them up to minimal size, and maybe a Marbo conversion. Last year I completed the conscript force, so we shall see what I can get done this time.
Grey Death Legion and Nurgle Allies: The GDL right now sits at the top of my list as my most complete force. Built to be a tournament army, this army was mostly built around its background but was also built to compete in the tournament circuit. I have a few things in the pipeline for the army to grow a little more in 2011. I hope to finally get the last Troop Choice finished this year, guess what kind it is. Heh! I also got Spawns making a appearance. Finally my second special character for this army might make it to my list finally straight out of the codex and in his terminator armor. As for allies, I am still not sure if I want bring the renegade War Pigs servants of decay into nurgles clutches. Right now the force is up to a full platoon and sentinel that serves as mercs for the LoD. The units were fun and easy to paint, so we shall see where I want to take this force this year. Its looking like a fun green year for Nurgle!
Chaos Daemons: While this army would usually be attached to my CSM forces above, last year it grew in size to earn its own status as an autonomous force. My Daemon forces have grown so large they now field at least one force from each Chaos Power and more reinforcement are in route from the Warp. I suppose this is good with the possible release of new Grey Knights this year my daemons will be the ones hunted this year perhaps. The big to do out of this army will be my Forgeworld Khorne Great Daemon, will I finally have time to finish this great project, time will tell. I really want to finish it and make it the centerpiece of this fun army.
Phalanx of the Bronze Face Necron Forces: My Necron army has laid in slumber since the days of the Medusa V world campaign, I am still unsure as to what this year will bring for them. I have a few units in the middle of being painted, so expect a few bits to show up here. I also picked up some BFG ships for the raider fleet. Since this is my only army with a Battle Fleet Gothic force I plan on growing this force more then the ground forces so if your a fan of BFG and Necrons keep an eye out. I might even get a few players around here to give me a game or two of BFG with this fleet finally. Heh!
Dark Eldar: If you told me last year at this time I would own some new DE toys by the end of the year, I would have laughed in your face. I have to say the sculpts of this new army are really cool. This is going to be a mostly hobby project, where I will paint what I like and not drive it based on the codex. With an Archon already finished, and a unit of Trueborn Warriors and Raider already waiting to get primed on my desk this will be a fun army to slowly build up one unit at a time. It should be interesting to see what I grab next for this army.....
Other Projects: As for other things like Super Heavies and Terrain, I am thinking of a few things that come to mind I want to try and get done this year. Maybe if I have time I'll finish up a ShadowSword I picked up from a friend before the bunker closed. I'm also thinking of making some chaosy terrain for my armies to showcase them on. I would also love to build another Subjugator titan force my CSM forces. There is also the Escalation League coming up which I need to chose an army to use for. Right now I am thinking of something GREEN!! I'm still unsure if I want to go with it or not, so I will hold my tongue till I am 100% sure. I will be posting about this soon
Well good luck in 2011 with all of your projects and have fun....We've started a whole new year and it's going to be fun as always!
Enjoy! =)

Chaos Apocalypse!

last week GW did a feature on Apocalypse and armies people in the company owned. This got me thinking that I have never done a photo shoot of all my ready units in my chaos army. Chaos Renegades, Chaos Space Marines, and Chaos Daemons, I have never combined the entire mess into one whole army in all the years I have been painting and playing Chaos. Well today I corrected that little problem, as I broke out everything that was at least fully painted, based, and legal for an Apocalypse style army. I didn't bother with making formations, although I am sure some formation or two are in there. Oddly enough only one chaos power is not present in my army at the moment, can you guess who!? The army nearly took all the space on my dining room table, and even if I finished some of my half complete projects I don't know if I will have space for more on this table....Hmmmm...looks like I need a bigger table! ;)

Give or take a few points....Your looking at 9500 to 10K worth of Chaos on the table! Who's up for a 20K Game!

Daemons on the Flanks!

Renegades make up the central Core of this army!

Flesh Hounds on patrol....

Chaos Space Marines leading the charge!
Enjoy! :)

Conscripts and Cultist for the LotD

Almost a year ago I posted about a unit of old metal Cultist models I got, and while I have been working on them on and off this past year, I can now show you the results! The Cultist will be used as an attached Conscript unit for one of my Legion of the Dragon Zeta Platoon. Although the unit numbers 24 models I hope to find more of these guys and eventually make a full 50 man unit of Crazed Cultist for my renegade forces!

Enjoy! :)

Cyclops Demo Team Conversion for LotD

One of the first units I learned to respect back when I played in an escalation league with an Elysian Droptroop army was the Cyclops demo tank. This little monster packs a nasty surprise with no scatter. It was an effective anti armor force when I used it in the Elysian’s, and I’ve converted one for the LotD. This one is made using a plastic epic landraider and a few bits of plasticard. Basically a remote controlled RC bomb, the operator is a renegade comm. Trooper with a laspistol, although now they are armed with a lasgun, the model still works for the controller.

Ratlings for the LotD (Part 1)

Thanks to a small find at the last yard sale at the battle bunker I got a blister of Chaos Squats. These guys come with their own cult mutation from each chaos power. So I thought why not work them into my legion army as counts as ratlings. They are short and give them a sniper rifle and they are good to go. So I’ve begun the process of converting these guys into a sniper unit for my LotD forces. With 6 models to work with, I have enough to make a decent size squad of snipers that can make any unit have a bad day. I have begun building some of them and giving them arms, as I finish the painting on some of them, I will give them their weapons and other arms. I think this will make for a neat unit that will add more chaos character to the army!

Alpha Platoon: LotD

Alpha Platoon is the first troop choice of my Legion of the Dragon forces. Armed with Autoguns, Flamers and Heavy Bolters the platoon is a regular line platoon. The Command squad is a full melta unit built for anti armor and support. The Platoon is now fully battle ready. When I use the Al’Rahem special character this platoon will inherit the heavy weapon squads from Zeta Platoon , usually 2 lascannon squads that need to be on the battle line and not outflanking.

Unifying the Undivided Chaos

So, Ron over at FTW put out a call for us blogger to post how we go about unifying our armies. For my CSM and Allies bases are perhaps the biggest point to a unified theme. My Alpha Legion, Legion of the Dragon, and Grey Death Legion all sport ash waste style bases, as does my Subjugator titan. Breaking it down a little more, both my Alpha's and Dragon forces are themed for the same army color theme. The Alpha Legion being a traitor legion, and the Legion of the Dragon being their auxiliary infantry troops. The paint scheme for both forces is also similar, with lots of blues and bolter being used along with greens. Enjoy the examples below....
Arkos the Faithless

Alpha Legion Dread

Alpha Terminators

Alpha Obliterators

Renegade Commander

Rogue Psyker

Renegade Command Squad

Grey Death Legion, Death Guard

Nurgle Daemons and Prince

Even Warmachines....Subjugator Titan

Random Thoughts on 40K and Other Games
So recently I took a break from my full speed rush thru chaos. It's been a year and half since I dove into Chaos and I am still not done, but I can say I easily have 7K of Chaos goodness fully painted and based. This includes Alpha Legion, Alpha Legion IG, Grey Death Legion, and many support elements from other chaos forces. Let me see where I stand with my many projects...
Alpha Legion: Currently I am working on all my troop choices, I have nearly finished my 2nd Chosen squad, and I am going to tackle 30 CSMs, 3 Rhinos, and 1 Predator before the year is out. This will set me with a fully painted and legal Tournament Army.
IG Alpha Legion/LotD: The Legion of the Dragon is nearly finished. I have been a bit burned out by working on so much for the army. I have 1500 points now finished, and I need to get a heavy weapons team, platoon command squad, and another commo- trooper for my 3rd platoon to be finally finished. I also want to get my Penal Legion troopers and Conscripted troopers painted. The goal will be for all that to be done by the end of the year. I still will have bit more to go before this army is tourny legal, but I can continue to build on it.
Grey Death Legion: This army is finished, I can easily field 2500 points, and while I still have a few other units I want to add on like 7 Spawns for fluff, its an army I can work on from time to time. I like the Plague Hulk and Plague Drones but I don't know if I want to invest in so much FW right now. Right now the only thing on my mind about this army is, "Do I want to take it to Armies on Parade next year at Games Day?" If I do, I will get the Drones and Hulk for coolness factor.
Ravenwing: I started the building of the army, and it has gone ok. The problem is I stopped when I got the itch for WHFB. I must work myself into this army once more. It will be a fun side project.
Specialist Games and WHFB: I recently got into a 4 month contest of a Tale of 4 Gamers at the GW Bunker. I got one regiment of Goblins ready for basing. I need to work up to a 2K fully painted and based Orc&Goblins. This on top of random work on my Imperial Aeronautica force, Mordheim Night Goblin force, and Necron BFG Fleet. Ahhhhh so much!
There are a few new additions that have risen in the last 2 weeks. First was a Grey Knights army I got for a good deal, almost 50 GKs, 25 GK Termis, 2 Land Raiders, and few other bits. I like the models a lot, and the price was great. I spent the better part of last week painting a squad, and I'm almost done with the whole squad. I'll post pics soon here. It's also a side project like my Ravenwing, maybe I will tackle a Terminator Squad next for the army. I know the army isn't too competitive, but it looks great. The other new toy was Space Wolves, I broke down and got a codex and a box of tac Wolves. This along with a marine tac box I won in a conversion contest will be the base for another project, the Red Wolves. A little known marine chapter, the Red Wolf project will be small, possibly 1K at most, we'll see.
Well that's where I stand with my most major projects.....I'm hearing rumors that the Dark Angels fortress in Planetstrike might be released in December, and I gotta have it, if the rumors are true....so more work as always! Gotta love this hobby! Heh! Enjoy! ;)

Gunheads of the LoTD

With the new IG codex, armor has changed a lot for Renegade and Loyalist forces. There is a whole new group of units available to the treadhead in all of us. Since this army was suppose to have some exclusive FW pieces too it when I first began, that has now changed. When I first began last year I had no idea of the Punisher, so I built 2 Exterminators to provide my forces with a lot of firepower to mow down MEQs. With the ability to throw down at least 15 dice a turn in firepower, the exterminators were my choice for taking down troops. The LRMBT with the battlecannon was my other choice for taking on heavy armor. This was going to be my plan originally. The new codex brings with it new variants, and also new rules for the Exterminators. The new rules allow for more dice, and also the ability to add an ace to the force. It also makes the tanks legal for tournaments, and such which is a plus for the army. The rate of fire make the exterminators great gun bunkers for holding my lines down. I also have a manticore conversion kit, which I plan to add to this force in the future.

2 Exterminators with Brass Etched pieces on the hulls, and Alpha Legion logos.

The entire heavy armor force with 2 Exterminators and 1 LRMBT.
As for super heavy support, my vision for the army was to run the opposite of the regular forces. This would mean 1 heavy bolter Malcador, and 2 annihilator type malcadors for the squad. I also have an idea for a "Plague Reaper" tank with a few changes to reflect it not being a Plague Reaper. The Valdor tank also appeals to me for this force. I will slowly gather the super heavy support, for now I have 1 bolter Malcador and 1 annihilator Malcador for the force.

That's all for now....Enjoy!
Conscripts and Cultist

Recently Gav Thorpe posted on his blog about his thoughts on the CSM Codex. Something that stuck with me was the use of lesser daemons and others using other models and reasons for using them. This got me thinking about how the Alpha Legion can use these forces, but not as daemons, just to represent something else. In the past codex the Legion had access to Cultist, which also brought about the use of lesser daemons. This was of course cut out of the current codex. As we know, the legion doesn't use daemons in its armies. I do have a unit of cultist, which I am using as conscripts for my IG Alpha Legion forces. These are the old metal cultist, which I scored 24 of them a while back. I have already begun the work of painting them and I like the look of them. They will fit well as conscripts, charging from outflank when I use my stand in Al'Rahem platoon commander. Now a second use has occurred to me, this one for my CSM Alpha Legion forces. I'm thinking about using them for lesser daemon stand ins, but as an "ambush" mortal unit. The basic idea will be that they are cultist who have set up an ambush or hidden position on the battlefield. When the legion needs them(ie. summoned) they will appear on the battlefield from hiding or launch an ambush. Yes the stats are a little out of place, but again my idea would be that these cultist are crazed or jacked up on some kind of drug that lets them survive outrageous damage. This would also work well for the ambush idea since daemons can assault on the same turn they are summoned.
I've not used daemons much in the past, but the few times I have they do well on the battlefield. Easily one of the best support and counter charge units available to a CSM commander in any game. Now that I have begun work on a Emperors Children force, I got a unit of lesser daemonetts with the force. I also have lots of bloodletter models for when I get around to building a World Eaters force. Nurgle still use metal models, and while it would be nice to have a few units of them I don't have the $$ to spend on metal models, should GW ever make some in plastic they will be part of my Grey Death Legion. I will have to try this out and experiment a little with my Alpha Legion forces in future games.

Legion of the Dragon Rough Riders (Part 1)

My original force didn't include a Rough Rider force. I consider them one trick units and usually only good for the first charge. Then of course GW redid the whole Fantasy Warriors of Chaos line and I was sold. At first I liked the new chaos knights and how cool all the armor looked, and it started my mind thinking. The problem with the knight horses is the large size. They were just too big for any rough riders. While I have seen others convert Cadian RRs out of empire knights, I never thought the look fit the cadians too well, and the horses were a bit out of place with all the empire coverings on them. Then I saw the new plastic Marauders riders, and I had found the perfect kit! The horses were the right size and the riders could be converted with some of the bits from the FW renegade line, so I waited till the new box sets came out, and grabbed up 2 boxes of riders on the weekend they came out...WOO HOO!!
With a few bits from the bits box I set off to work on what I think is one of the coolest conversions to the army. I cut the marauders in half taking the riding legs and matching them to the FW Renegade torsos, which turned out to be a perfect fit. The horses came in lots of cool poses and I was also able to mount them on round 40MM bases like the Deathriders of Krieg, which looks better then the cav bases some RRs use in 40K. Above is my prototype model with the needed bits to make a good mix. I used a Cadian Sgt's chainsword arm for the lance arm, and I attached a marauder lance to the arm after cutting off part of the chainsword. I added a few bits from the tank sprue to give him some wargear. I used the arm of the Cadian grenade launcher as the other arm where he will hold on to the horse. On the other side in the pics below I used the folding stock Lasgun as an alternate weapon strapped to the horse, like an old style carbine. I also gave the rider a pistol as another option for weapons choice. At the time the old codex was being used, so some of the weapon options are not available with the new codex, but I will s till model them with the weapons, since I think they look great with them.

The arms are pinned in so I can adjust them to whatever pose I want him in and see what looks best for the action pose of the model.

The other arm will hold the chain strap, and notice the other weapon options for the rider, as well as the extra gear roll on the back of the horse.

For this squad I am going all out on the Sgt, and using one of my prized Enforcer torsos. I usually use them for officers only, but in the case of this one unit I made the exception and am using him as the squad leader.

With the prototype now finished, I will begin construction of the rest of the squad now, along the same formula.
Enjoy!
Command of the Legion of the Dragon

Arkos forces also comprise of another force outside of his Space Marines. A division of elite army forces called The Legion of the Dragon. Originally created during the days of the great crusade, the LotD fist started out as a force of operatives working behind the lines of non Alpha Legion forces. The members of this force often trained alongside their Marine allies, learning all the lessons of covert ops from experienced Alpha Legion commanders. Often employed as spies and saboteurs, the LotD was an essential tool of the Alpha Legion in many theaters of war. With the coming of the Heresy, the High Command reworked the LotD into a larger fighting force to support Alpha Legion operations in the field as well as behind enemy lines. No longer having access to the Imperial Army, the High Command began a crash course and building its own version of an auxiliary army. The LotD is formed along similar lines to the IG of the imperium. Smaller in size the LotD is still large enough to mount full planetary invasions, should it be needed. The current size of the LotD is unknown, only members of the High Command have access to such information. Alpha Legion commanders can count on LotD support when needed.

Commanders Codename: Alpha Commander Gato "Ripper"
Warband: 901st Legion of the Dragon "Dark Vipers"
History: The 901st has been attached to Arkos forces for several years, often operating in the same sector as the Faithless in smaller detachments thru out several worlds. The Dark Vipers are experts in small unit operations behind enemy lines, raising rebellion, or build Alpha Legion cells in support of Faithless operations. The last time the entire regiment fought together was during the rescue of Lord Bruticus annihilation force. The entire regiment was sent in to help with evacuation of the outpost, and to hold back the Nid incursion.

Commander Gato under construction, we can make him better, we have the technology! Off comes the Plasma Pistol from the awesome FW Renegade Commander model and on goes the Bolt Pistol.

2 Minions in the Army HQ Squad under construction.

A finished shot of Commander Gato, with his faithful pet Ravage.

The Army HQ command Squad.....

The Army HQ Squad is also joined by a Rogue Psyker(Psyker Primaris), trained by the Alpha Legions sorcerers in the powers of the warp.
Enjoy!
