Random Thoughts on 40K and Other Games

So recently I took a break from my full speed rush thru chaos. It's been a year and half since I dove into Chaos and I am still not done, but I can say I easily have 7K of Chaos goodness fully painted and based. This includes Alpha Legion, Alpha Legion IG, Grey Death Legion, and many support elements from other chaos forces. Let me see where I stand with my many projects...

Alpha Legion: Currently I am working on all my troop choices, I have nearly finished my 2nd Chosen squad, and I am going to tackle 30 CSMs, 3 Rhinos, and 1 Predator before the year is out. This will set me with a fully painted and legal Tournament Army.

IG Alpha Legion/LotD: The Legion of the Dragon is nearly finished. I have been a bit burned out by working on so much for the army. I have 1500 points now finished, and I need to get a heavy weapons team, platoon command squad, and another commo- trooper for my 3rd platoon to be finally finished. I also want to get my Penal Legion troopers and Conscripted troopers painted. The goal will be for all that to be done by the end of the year. I still will have bit more to go before this army is tourny legal, but I can continue to build on it.

Grey Death Legion: This army is finished, I can easily field 2500 points, and while I still have a few other units I want to add on like 7 Spawns for fluff, its an army I can work on from time to time. I like the Plague Hulk and Plague Drones but I don't know if I want to invest in so much FW right now. Right now the only thing on my mind about this army is, "Do I want to take it to Armies on Parade next year at Games Day?" If I do, I will get the Drones and Hulk for coolness factor.

Ravenwing: I started the building of the army, and it has gone ok. The problem is I stopped when I got the itch for WHFB. I must work myself into this army once more. It will be a fun side project.

Specialist Games and WHFB: I recently got into a 4 month contest of a Tale of 4 Gamers at the GW Bunker. I got one regiment of Goblins ready for basing. I need to work up to a 2K fully painted and based Orc&Goblins. This on top of random work on my Imperial Aeronautica force, Mordheim Night Goblin force, and Necron BFG Fleet. Ahhhhh so much!

There are a few new additions that have risen in the last 2 weeks. First was a Grey Knights army I got for a good deal, almost 50 GKs, 25 GK Termis, 2 Land Raiders, and few other bits. I like the models a lot, and the price was great. I spent the better part of last week painting a squad, and I'm almost done with the whole squad. I'll post pics soon here. It's also a side project like my Ravenwing, maybe I will tackle a Terminator Squad next for the army. I know the army isn't too competitive, but it looks great. The other new toy was Space Wolves, I broke down and got a codex and a box of tac Wolves. This along with a marine tac box I won in a conversion contest will be the base for another project, the Red Wolves. A little known marine chapter, the Red Wolf project will be small, possibly 1K at most, we'll see.

Well that's where I stand with my most major projects.....I'm hearing rumors that the Dark Angels fortress in Planetstrike might be released in December, and I gotta have it, if the rumors are true....so more work as always! Gotta love this hobby! Heh! Enjoy! ;)

The Ravenwing Project

The Ravenwing Project was something that just happen on me one day while I was at the battle bunker. I won a free Master of the Ravenwing on his Jetbike during an event. I had no intention of ever playing with the character in any of my armies when I got it. I thought it was a cool model and one day I would get around to painting it. I did get a copy of the current Dark Angels codex back when it came out, mostly for the pictures and fluff, as well as knowing your enemy kind of thing. Although since the new marine codex came out I had been thinking about starting a marine army, several choice were on my mind...Crimson Fists, Space Sharks, Black Templars, Imperial Fists, and Dark Angels. In the end I got Kantor and went with the Crimson Fists for my nilla codex marine army, but I still liked both Templars and Angels. I've had some incredible battle against Black Templar armies in the past, but since I went Crimson Fists and I tossed the idea aside since I have a fist army from Rogal Dorn's legion now in the works. So the DA was there waiting to strike out. I got to thinking what DA aspects do I like, not the Deathwing since too many of those are roaming around now anyways. I'm a fan of the color green so I could have done a nilla DA list, but I have Crimson Fists mostly for that now. Ravenwing was interesting but it never pulled me enough to get on it, until I won that free model. I began researching it a bit, and with the black paint scheme it seemed like an easy army to paint up, like my nurgle army. So here I am now, as usual I made an army list with the goal of building to tournament size (2250 Points) Raven Wing force.

Ravenwing Strike Force
Total Points: 2250

HQ +205

HQ
Sammael Landspeeder

Troops +1240

Ravenwing Attack Squad
1 Sgt Bike w/Plasma Pistol (+PF)
1 Bike Apothacary
1 Bike Company Banner
2 Bikes w/Meltaguns
1 Bike
1 Attack Bike w/MM +50

Ravenwing Attack Squad
1 Sgt Bike w/Plasma Pistol (+PW +MB)
2 Bikes w/Meltaguns
3 Bikes
1 Attack Bike w/MM
1 Landspeeder

Ravenwing Attack Squad
1 Sgt Bike w/Plasma Pistol (+PF +MB)
2 Bikes w/Plasmaguns
3 Bikes
1 Attack Bike w/MM
1 Landspeeder

FA +470

Ravenwing Support Squad
1 Landspeeder w/MM
1 Landspeeder w/AC

Ravenwing Support Squad
1 Landspeeder w/HB
1 Landspeeder w/TL (+Tornado Launchers)

Ravenwing Support Squad
1 Landspeeder w/HB
1 Landspeeder w/AC

Heavy Support +335

Heavy 1
Predator (+TL-LC +LC Sponsons +HK)

Heavy 2
Vindicator (+Xtra Armor +HK)

The idea is to build a solid core of Ravenwing, and possibly add some DA additional forces to make it a more effective force. The model count is low, but expected for an army made up of bikes and landspeeders. Oddly enough I did take the Master, but not on his jetbike so the model will stay unpainted for now. I took advantage of the company banner and apothecary for a squad, and I packed all the assault cannon goodness I could. The attack bikes are all build for anti armor; after all I have enough bolters and heavy bolters already floating around with the other bikes and landspeeders. So it would be MultiMelta hotness for my attack bikes. The regular bikes take a mix of Melta and Plasmaguns for the special weapons slots. Meltas are always good, and at least some plasma to fit the theme of Dark Angels, who seem to enjoy their plasmas a lot. Finally the Landspeeders were also a mix bag of assault cannons and heavy bolters. They will sit back and watch the fun from a distance to unleash loads of fire on the enemy, while the bikes close in and raid. I broke them down into 2 speeder squads in case of immobilized death to some. Finally I added an all Lascannon Predator and a Vindicator from the DA Armory to give the force a bit more bite at long range and close range support.

This will be the blueprint of the project, and will of course change as I go on or not depending on how I feel, more updates to come....well that's all for now! Enjoy!

Master of the Ravenwing and Squadron

ZOG!! heh! I've been playing DoW II too much now. Anyways, I'm adding more work to my back log. When the Stompa came out I won a Master of Ravenwing on a Jetbike as a prize at the bunker, and its been sitting on my bookcase alone since then. I grabbed up a Ravenwing battalion box a few weeks ago. While I'm not a fan of some of the splinter marine dex's, I started reading up on this one and it caught my eye, before I tossed the Master box away into a dark corner of closet space. So tonight I began construction of my first marine bike army. I'm a sucker for a fan of a VERY BAD 80's b-movie called MegaForce...about a force of bike riders like the Ravenwing. ARGH! Heh! I'm also thinking about building the Master on his Landspeeder, an armor 14 Landspeeder sounds sweet! I basically built the battalion set bikes and landspeeder in about 3 hours at the bunker tonight, so I'm half way there. I still have to tackle the metal jetbike monster, but I will hold off till I am confident with my paint scheme from the plastics to take a shot at that. So expect some pics of my ravenwing in the near future.
