Tyranids: Mawloc

I picked up the Mawloc kit on the day the new nid codex hit the shelves. I wanted to see what this new kit offered with the option to make a trygon, I was curious to see if it could hold up my already in hand Forge World Trygon kit, which I think is the best bug kit out there still. This kit sat for a while along with the army waiting for the day the fleet would form. Now I have taken the chance to build and paint it up as a test run for my FW kit to be painted in the future. I chose to go with the Mawloc of the 2 kit options since I already had a resin Trygon waiting. This kit was fairly simple to assemble and it was a lot of fun to paint. I'm looking forward to putting this monster on the table to burrow and assault all over the battlefield, and soon to be joined by a Trygon too!

Tyranids: Reinforcements from the Hive Fleet!

Reinforcements have arrived! This is my next wave of hormagaunts to join the swarm. A total of 23 more gaunts will join the swarm to assault enemy forces. These guys were extra gaunts I had laying around along with a few extras I had gotten in some trades that were in bad condition. After a little extra work on some of these bugs I got them up to speed and ready to join the others I had finished earlier this year. You can never have enough of these bugs to help in assaults.

Tyranids: Malanthrope

The Malanthrope is my third HQ addition to the swarm. A ForgeWorld model with some unique rules and background. The model is smaller then a Hive Tyrant, but it is taller then one. It's not really meant for front line duty, but it gives me an extra option when it comes to HQ choices. The new imperial armor apocalypse 2 book has new rules for this beast, but I haven't had a chance to check them out yet. It was fun, quick, and easy addition to the swarm.

The Return of Lord Axalon and his Necron Phalanx

It's funny that 2 years ago I made a post on this blog about my Necron forces and here we are 2 years later almost to that date, and guess what we have! WOO HOO! The Toasters are BACK!!!

I have to say that this has been an expensive weekend for me, with this new codex coming out. The new book looks like a lot of fun to play. I plan on eating up all the information in the book this week and thinking about where I want to take this army. There are just so many new ideas, along with some awesome looking new models, and still more to come in the future. I am really excited about this turn of events.

Necrons rising out of their tombs

Here are my intial thoughts on this new book......

Background: I don't see why people seem to be up in arms over this. There isn't much groundbreaking in the background that should shake the metal hearts of old players. The necrons now have a bit more personality which I think is a good thing. For once in a codex the past, for the most part stays the past, and we concentrate on the here and now(40K that is). Most of the background dealt with the current 40K world, which was a good thing to see.

Special Rules: I have to say that Entropic Strike is the biggest new toy we get to play with. As others perhaps have pointed out the ability to take away a Save and Armor Value is apt. Necrons are suppose to have superior tech, why not. Also this ability is not a codex breaking as say Jaws in Space Wolves that wipes out whole units. Yes I think the ability to eat armor is funny and scarabs will see a lot of table time, but they are still swarms and they will die fast with an experienced player. Entropic can be annoying but it can be controlled too.

Army List: I have to say I was impressed by the lay out, as of right now I have yet to find any unit that is broke like a Nob Biker or GK Paladin wound allocation nightmare unit. The Necron book seems fairly balanced, and there does seem to be a lot of awesome in the elite choices, but then again that is why they are called ELITE. Still unlike the Nid codex where all the hotness is in the elite choices the Fast Attack has it's share of fun, in addition to Scarab Swarms, the wraiths and destroyers look useful as always as does the new Tomb Blade unit. In my past experience with necrons the Fast Attack has always been my #2 place for boosting my necron armies behind #1 Troops. It still seems to hold that spot for me. The heavy choices look good and with the Heavy and Regular Destroyers now listed as one FA choice it opens up for more heavy support. I am looking forward to the new Cylon Fighter(Yes it does look like a Cylon Raider from BSG) which I'm sure will come out in the next model wave or 2. The HQ choices are huge, and one thing I do like a lot is that this time they avoided the silliness of "Take this leader and use X non-Troop unit AS troops" stupidity. The only character that seems to do this is one lord with a the ability to make an already immortal troop choice into raving maniacs. I have yet to read up on all the characters but the new Destroyer Lord will be fun, with higher T he is worthy still to lead my Phalanx to war. The new use for Lords is similar to a mix of Count of Archon(DE)+Wolf Guards, with the ability to spread the wealth so to say into every unit in your army. From my first few looks this army list seems to have a similar style to the DE balanced army list, where you can have fun playing it in different ways.

Models: I picked up my models and I even got the additional Cryptek guy to join the court of the overlord. I have to say these are some of the best looking models they have had in this range in a long time. I really like the new Immortal models and the new command barge thing looks cool. For those of you with Pariah ownership problems, they are now Lynchguards, as the basic Lych comes armed similar to a Pariah. All of the currently existing necron models can be used in this book. From the looks of it, this is only the tip of the iceberg, there are a number of units that still need to come out and from the drawings they look awesome and I can't wait to get them.

Overall: I have to say for a Ward book this new Toaster codex is not too shabby. He hasn't gone overboard with his usual stupidity as he has done in the past with marine books, and the army list actually looks like it can support multiple builds fairly well. So I don't expect to see a canned necron list that is a clone list at every tourney I play. Yes there are some typical "Easy Button" things in the codex, but that happens no matter who writes these things. Overall I have to give this book a thumbs up so far....I still have a bit more to read up on it before I can say yay or nay for sure but so far I am smiling at the prospect of wasting some Salamander Marines.....

Still with this late 2011 release I am still pushing to get my existing projects, mainly my Tyranid Hive Fleet finished by the end of the year. Once this is done I will be looking forward to getting stuck in some necron new shiny syndrome for a while. I guess my Dark Eldar side project will be slowed for a little while longer. I can't wait to get back to building this toaster army full speed once again, both 40K and BFG.

Tyranids: Deathleaper

This is my first Nid Special Character model. The Deathleaper never caught my eye as much as the Red Terror did in the past, but when this bug became part of the regular codex I got one to try it out. So far he has seen action in one battle and died a brave bug to Tau Commander Farsight. I will have to keep trying him in other games when I have the space and points to deploy it. This bug will be the top bug of my new Lictor force now. It was a fun side paint project at least, maybe next time around they will bring back the Red Terror.....

Tyranids: Lictor Brood

Lictors are a great deep strike unit if you have some points to spare. I was lucky to score 2 of the special edition Lictors from the last army box set, when I got one in my army box I bought and then later on in a random buy online. I also have the standard lictor that is sold in the current line. I think this will be the limit of my lictor force for a good while. Sneaky Gitz!

Tyranids: Ravener Broods

Time to expand that new Fast Attack selection with another unit or 2. When I first got the last Tyranid army box set I got 3 Raveners in the set, which I didn't do much with at first. As I gathered more units I got 3 more raveners, but these were not complete. So I split the ones that were complete with all arms and made the others into a rending claw unit. So I was able to field 2 units of 3 raveners each. of course I've been told this is too small a unit, but I will have to give it a try when I can and see how they perform. I'm thinking of teaming these guys with the Trygon or Mawloc, sounds like fun!

Tyranids:Venomthrope Brood

The Venomthrope was on my must have list of new bugs to get once I had finished enough units to make him worth taking. Well lucky for me I waited long enough that when I did go and pick one up it had hit the shelves in Finecast. While this is not my first finecast model, it my first finished one from the few I do own. I have to say that this one was worth waiting for in finecast. It only tooke me a few days to get it done. Now to try it out and see what kind of chaos I can create with all the fun special rules for this critter.

Tyranids: Spore Mines

Let's start this new wave of my Nid army small but mighty! The mighty Spore Mine has been around for a long time, and I have been looking for these guys since I finished the Biovores. I was lucky to fine them all in a box over the summer and I got to work on these guys so I can use the Biovores. In addition these guys make for some fun terrain interdictor with the deep strike rule for spore mine clusters. Now that the new codex makes them all the same type the different types of mines are for looks only. I got 16 of these guys now and ready to be fired off to the enemies of the swarm!

Back Online.....

Well it seems the forces of the imperium have been working against the Faithless overtime.....I'm back online after a bit of an absence.......

With the recent assault by mother nature on my location on the East Coast, and a few other events in my life my time posting on the blog has been limited this past summer. I am still working on my Tyranid army project and I plan to post some new content on the army soon!

In addition to my work on painting new units for my Nid army, I have also found and built some new additions to the army that were in storage. As you can see by my listing of projects for the blog I have added a number of new units. Spore Mines....Raveners....Trygon....and even a Mawloc.....I am moving on to another round of the armies growth. This doesn't mean I haven't stopped building up the smaller bugs, I still have a good number of Termagants and Hormagaunts I am still rolling out to rise the size of those broods. In addition I am already thinking about another 3rd wave of ideas I want to work on when I am nearly completed with this new phase of the army. Last month I wanted to release an army gallery post of what I have finished, but due to my old PC taking a lightning strike those plans have been on hold. Now that I am back online I will be posting that soon!

The Dark Eldar project is still moving forward as well. I have been working on lots of Venom's and Razorwings! I will be posting a few pics of my current projects soon. I hope to have the majority of this army done soon, and possibly getting a chance to finally play with the army in a few games before the year is out......

Finally I am hearing rumors of a possible Necron release soon! Hmmmmmmmm.....my oldest fully painted army might actually get some table time finally! I'm curious to see what this possible new codex might have in store. Of course it's still all rumor talk, and I have other things to keep me busy before this happens, but I am excited to see a new Necron codex being whispered about. I haven't truly used this army since the days of Medusa V when the Phalanx of the Bronze Face was a part of that last world campaign. WOO HOO!!!

Tyranids: Spinefist Termagant Brood

This is my second part to the Termagant force. This time all the little buggers have Spinefist. While not as effective as before give them the poison upgrade and an alpha warrior with the same load out and watch your enemies drop like flies. Who is going to say no to a twin linked BS 6 poison shot, oh yeah! These guys are going to be a fun surprise for anyone looking to take down a simple meat shield. These guys started as a random force of just a few similar models I had picked up in an auction buy. When I finally came around to working on these guys I liked the idea of the super shooty poison bugs. So here we are, another simple and fun unit to add more mass to my growing swarm and a little surprise to boot too! FIRE!!!

Tyranids: Termagant Brood

Time for a little Nid update. This time we continue adding more troops to the army. The swarm of Termagants joins the hive army. These guys are a great meat shield for all the other forces out there in the army, they lead the charge and with so many on the table it is hard for anyone to wipe them out in one turn of shooting. Besides who wants to unleash what is following them anyways right.

Tyranids: Alpha Warrior

Time for a little side project, the Alpha Warrior idea came to me when I was using my spinegant brood in a game. Why not create an alpha warrior that would give this unit superior ballistic skill and make it twin linked. Enter this guy who was a refugee from my many buys, already built but armed with what I needed some spinefist! With a little bit of work he has joined the swarm to lead a brood to war!

The Dark Eldar Experiment (Part 3)

Did someone say we need some troops? Ask and ye shall receive...I have finished most of the needed troops for my new army. 2 squads of Trueborn Warriors and 3 squads of regular troops. The incbi are still in the painting stage, once they are done I will post new pictures of them. For now I am just glad to get this part of building the army done. Tyranids: Shovel Tusker Carnifex

A former creation from the last edition codex transplanted to this current one. The Tusker was a nasty anti-armor beast, and still is with crusher claws and tusk. A bit more diminished now but the model was still a lot of fun to build and paint with all the nasty spikey bug bits to go.

Tyranids: Ripper Swarms

When I first started collecting this army, I never thought about using ripper swarms, mostly because there were other better choices and modeling 3 rippers on a base didn't seem like a swarm to me. Then Forge World went and created these sweet models, and now I have ripper swarms as I envisioned them! These are some of FW's best creations for the nid line, they were a blast to paint. Update: Hive Fleet Eclipse

Well it's a whole new month, and last month was a great success when it came to this army, I was able to paint and finish a full legal army technically. So with coming out of a month like May, I am going to take it easy and push to get more of the smaller bugs that make up my list finished. I figure in a month or so I could punch out all of these guys and put a major dent in my nid backlog. So it's going to be a Gaunt June!

The Dark Eldar Experiment (Part 2)

Time to shift gears you might say. With last month being filled with nid goodness, I picked up a few boxes of Dark Eldar warriors to build up on a running thought I had for a future army. These 4 squads will join my already finished squad for troop choices. All armed with Splinter Rifles and Cannons, I have tried to make every model a little different from each other. These guys are great anti-armor and fill up one of my elite choices for the army. A very straight and simple paint job that came out well, I experimented a little on the brain part behind the head, with a few reds and purples to get a good mix for the exposed brain. The Dark Eldar Experiment Continues

Well I finally took a moment to finish off this squad of Dark Eldar Warriors. I think in going back to the codex and looking at what is coming out soon, I might now have an idea of how I want this army to be built. The Venon has caught my eye and I am invisioning a force of Venoms with warriors and some incubi. I got the chance to check out the new venom and build it for a local GW store. I really like the kit and looks fantastic. I am also fired up by the pictures of the new dark eldar jet. It looks fantastic, and I'm thinking of bringing one into my future force already. I hope I get to build it too for the store I hang out at.

This is going to be the future of my eldar army, a 5 warrior squad with a splinter cannon I think. Mounted on a venom it along with the venom weapons will lay down a lot of anti infantry fire.

Here are some extra models that might make a come back in higher points levels perhaps, it was still fun to paint them and try out the paint scheme.

Finally here is the venom I built this past weekend....this skimmer was easy to assemble and looks great.

War Pigs Mercenaries: Alpha Platoon

Say hello to the “The War Pigs!” They will fight on your side for the right price! Originally this was going to be the beginning of a nurgle themed renegade force, but over the last year it has been a slow process of getting this small project off the ground and it has evolved now into a Mercenary army for hire using the new revised renegade army list from ForgeWorld. While the name is not too original it’s a bit of a fun joke to use for the army. I have a ton of very old GW imperial army models looking for a home, and these old vets are going into business for themselves in the 40k universe as a "security" firm. The troops come from all over the galaxy and work for anyone with the credits to pay. This is the first platoon of the army, Alpha Platoon is the a group of rough troops from all kinds of battlefields, armed with heavy bolters and a heavy stubber they are ready to hold the line!

Tyranids: Hormagaunt Brood

For my first troop choice to finish I chose this brood of Hormagaunts. Perhaps a must in a nid horde army, the Hormagaunts are the assault troops of the tyranid swarm. With an adrinal gland upgrade they are the equal of my other assaulters in the 40Kverse. I think a unit of 24 should be good for now! Good Forth and SLASH and DICE!

Tyranids: Screaming Killer Carnifex

Perhaps one of the most iconic monsters in this army that got me thinking about building this army was the Carnifex, and especially this build. The Screaming Killer Carnifex has been around since the first edition of this army, so I had to have at least one of these nasty bugs in my army. I always liked the pose of the original Fex that I tried to make it so with the newer plastic kit here.

The Return of Hive Fleet Eclipse!

Well it’s been a little over a year now that the current Tyranid codex came out. Due to various projects at the time I had to push back the rise of Hive Fleet Eclipse for a while now. If there is one xeno army of all the ones in 40K that I have always wanted to build and paint it was the nids. Mostly because of the Aliens look, but also because it was my 2nd fave army for a long time behind the Guard. For the last 2 editions of the nid codex I have been trying to get a chance to build this army, and with a recent lull in my various hobby projects I have a small window of time to work this army in finally. So I am now giving myself the rest of the year to get a 2K bug army fully painted and based, and I will attempt to get it done along with a few extra bits for fun, and maybe one day when I finish painting all of the bugs I have I’ll treat my army to a Big ForgeWorld Bug surprise. Right now I have a good color scheme that is a slight opposite of the current Hive Fleet Leviathan style with black for the base instead of the bone color. Hive Fleet Eclipse will be a splinter fleet of Leviathan, and the current storyline of the fleet is that it will be in conflict in the Eastern Fringe against the Alpha Legion and its minions. Here is my current inventory off the top of my head, but I know I have a few more units than just these, and more I plan to create.

I also have the new Space Hulk box with a full inventory of Genestealers and a Broodlord, not to mention a bag full or some of the older plastic stealers. Finally I have some bits from Battle of Macragge box set I plan to use for objective markers, and at least one brood nest terrain piece from ForgeWorld to add something different to the army. It can be said that this army has been slowly building up in the last few years and now the biomass is ready, and the hivemind is waking up to unleash….so prepare for the rise of this Hive Fleet!

The FW Trygon is still the Coolest looking Bug put out there...in my opinion...

W7&8 Escalation League Battle Report: The Final 2K and Bonus Battles

Weeks 7 and 8 would see the final round of the league, and the biggest battles to be had. At 2K each the battles were full blown carnage for all the members in the league. Although for me it was a bit of disappointment since both of my games ended in forfeit for both of my opponents. This still didn’t prevent me from getting my 2K list into battles with the bonus games of the league. So here is a summery of the last 2 weeks games and the bonus games….

Week 7: This week was a total forfeit, with my opponent not responding to my request to get our game in. This was not something that happened to me, but also to several other members in the League. In the end it was agreed by the league officials that all games from this person not already played by the end of the league would be considered his forfeit and the win would go to the opponent(Me!). So this ended up being a victory for me with no effort on the part of the Daemon forces.

Week 8: The next battle was against a different army from my other battles. The Necrons show up to make a showing in a 2K battle. The game was First Contact mission out of the battle missions book. We ran it for roughly 3 turns, and then my opponent gave in. The game was a good give and take for the first 2 turns, then I slowly began to turn the game in my favor when my flesh hounds made an enterence and began to push on one of the few objectives he held whole. This gave allowed me to test the army out on yet another different army in 40K, and also give me a chance to try another battle missions book mission which was a bit chaotic.

The Bonus game system worked into the league was one of a number of events connected to the league to achieve extra points in your standings. In this system, we were allowed to play 5 extra games each counting for 2 points per game. This way you could play other members of the league you were not scheduled to play in the regular weekly schedule, while getting extra points. The results of these battles did not count and win or lose you still earned 2 points per battle. The total number of points for bonus games being 10 earned you basically another extra win to your standing score. I was able to get 3 bonus games in during my time in the league. This also gave me a chance to try out my 2K list in 2 games which was more then I got in my regular scheduled games, not to mention trying out more missions from the Battle Missions book.

Bonus Game 1: This game challenged me against another race I hadn’t fought in the regular battles. Orks, were going to be my choice for the league but I changed to Daemons instead since I was close to finishing them and I wanted to learn how to use the army, instead of starting from the bottom up. The game was another battle missions game, this time it was Scorched Earth, a CSM mission. The battle was a nasty grudge match of two mobs getting down and dirty. Problem was he had a squad of nob bikers that were eating up my units wholesale each turn. Although I did frustrate him with my nurgle forces, since they seem to never go down. This allowed my khorne forces to enter the battle, but they were out shot in the end. It was massive fight of who could throw the most dice on the table and who could make the saves. In the end the ork attrition caught up to me, and ran out of units to throw at those bikes. We ran out of time with the Orks taking the win.

Bonus Game 2: This game was a group battle where several members of the league fought during our monthly club gathering. A 3K points battle per side pitting 2 Imperial Guard Armies vs. Emperors Children CSM, Chaos Daemons, and Orks. While 3 members controlled the guard side we had 3 members running 1K point armies for the forces of chaos on our side. The choice of Battle Mission this time was Wave Assault. An interesting mission that kind of played out very cinematic in the end, since the guard players took the defensive spot, and our 3 chaos/ork armies formed the 3 waves of the assault. First the Emperors Children went in from the right side, then my Daemons deepstriking from the center, and finally the Orks in wave 3 from the left. My most memorable moment had to be when a unit of 10 plaguebearers dropped in the middle of the guard line and almost every weapon was fired on them, and I took ZERO losses from all this fire. With FNP and cover saves, the number of crazy saves I made with this unit was awesome! The battle was a lot of fun for all involved, and at the end the forces of chaos controlled the outer objectives while the guard took the middle and center objectives for a tie score.

Bonus Game 3: This game brought back Felix for another round of combat at 2K. Once again his Catachans faced off against my Daemons in another slugfest of slaughter. In this final battle of the league for me, we played yet another battle missions game, the Dawn Raid from the DE section. I took a moment this time to help Felix learn the ins and outs of guard gaming. He is fairly new, and I took the time to help him better use his guard army, of course we were still playing a game so I still went after him with the intent to win, but there is always time to help tutor a new player when possible. The game went fairly well for the few turns we played before the store closed. He made some good choices in fire discapline that cost me my big unit of blood letters, but my forces were closing in for the objectives. We got in about 4 turns before we had to call it quits, but had the game run another whole turn, I think the score would have been more 3-0 in my favor for objectives instead of 1-1 which we agreed in the end.

Final Thoughts: This was a whirlwind of battles fought in a 2 week span that was a lot of fun. While I had one more battle lined up for the bonus games against some Imperial Fist marines, we never got the chance and ran out of time to get the battle in. I’m sure my Daemons will see those Fists sometime in the future on another battlefield. I did enjoy all the games I got to play, even the partial one, with the chance to try out some of the missions from the Battle Missions book for the first time since it came out. A lot of the missions had some wacky rules, but they weren’t game changing events that ruin the fun of the game. I think I will be trying out more missions in the future since I had a good time trying some out.

The Final Tally: Well its been a few weeks now and the league is over. The final standings have been posted, and out of 13 players I ranked 4th with a record of 5-2. Not too bad for an army I had little experince with before. On top of this I have finished a fully painted and based 2K army for my efforts now, so I am very happy with the results of my experince in this league. I will continue to add more to this army, as my back log of deamonic forces is still considerable with a few Forge World goodies to add on.

Daemons: Daemonettes of Slaanesh

With the end of the escalation league one of the units I finished for my league army was the Daemonettes unit. The unit saw action in the latter parts of the league game. It's a fun unit with to play with and try out, I always thought the older metal models were cool to have, but when the new plastics came out about 2 years ago I was sold! Not as detailed as the metal ones I am still glad they are plastic and less prone to chip and damage. I mimicked the same paint scheme I used on my Masque model which I finished last year. This unit was part of my original Iron Painters army but I chose to skip it instead for a Khorne unit, and now I have had the chance to come back and finish this unit off. Escalation League: 2K Points, Final Round!!

As the final round of the escalation league is about to begin, it’s time once again to up the points by 500 points and bring the army into its final version. In my mission to learn about this army, even at 2K I have averted from breaking down and adding a Special Character. I have enjoyed using the basic units available to me and when this is all over I will still have a few characters I can draw from to make this army even more effective. So now that we have reached 2K I have chosen to add 2 more units to the army and one of these units will bring in the final aspect of the chaos gods. The first new unit is a Slaanesh Daemonett unit, the last of the chaos gods to be represented in my army the daemonettes are a fast and deadly unit of close combat hitters, I have upgraded them with an icon to help bring in the other units and also to even out my number of icons in the army so both halves of my army are well covered when deepstriking. The next new unit is a Khorne Daemon Prince, the 3rd monstrous creature in the army; this guy is built for close combat terror! Oddly enough he is also armed with one of the few shooting attacks in my army, the deathstrike attack is a heavy assault attack he can make, add to that the ability to flight and he has some distance that will help him catch his enemy for assaults. In addition to the new units the other units in the army have been fleshed out a little more with more powers and abilities to make them even nastier. The tzeentch herald gained a few new powers to make it more effective, the flesh hounds are now up to my max models count that I have finished, making then a big cavalry counter attack unit. The greater daemon got an instrument upgrade, mostly because I had the spare points. The rest of the army works well enough and didn’t need any more upgrades. So all the chaos powers now have a hand in this army, we shall see how they all work together in the coming games!

Daemons: Daemon Prince of Khorne

This week I bring you another finished addition to my growing Daemon army. I started working on this prince back last year at the initial Iron Painter that really started this army. I didn't have the time to commit to this great model that night, and chose to concentrate on the Nurgle Greater Daemon instead of this one. While an old and much smaller model then the current prince this is a really cool model for a metal classic. This model also gave me a chance to try out a scheme which will eventually make its way into my forgeworld monster greater daemon of khorne and possibly to the vraks khorne prince which I currently have also. The armor was a mix of dwarf bronze with green wash to give it a more brass look. One thing I liked about this model was the detail in the wings with all the skulls. We shall see how this prince handles on the battle field as my khorne forces continue to grow bigger and bigger!

W6 Escalation League Battle Report: Daemons vs Space Marines

Week 6 continues my trip thru the world of 1500 point games. Well look who is back...SPACE MARINES! Imagine that, I can't seem to get away from the power armored nasties. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to lay down another daemon welcome. One thing I love about such leagues is the amount of diversity I see in marine armies at times. This will be my 3rd marine army I face yet they are all different. This time we welcome to the arena of combat the Howling Griffons! An off shoot of the Ultra Marines, this chapter has a bit of an underground following with 40K players. This time around we are playing one of the missions out of the Battle Missions 40K book, the Fighting Withdrawal mission will be our game of choice this time.......Lets take a look...

The Armies:

Chaos Daemons-
1500 Points of daemons and I am slowly getting the army up to a point where they are even more effective and nastier with each game. This time around I bring in the big guys as a Greater Daemon of Nurgle and Nurgle Daemon Prince join the ranks. Meanwhile the other units already in the army get built up a bit more and get a few useful upgrades which will come in handy.

Space Marines-
The Scions of the Ultra Marines have come knocking to my arena of combat finally. The Howling Griffons are a long time 40K lore chapter with a very colorful paint scheme. My opponent has painted up some of his army real well, and is on his way to having a very cool looking army when its all done. He has also chosen to not use any characters in our battle, so this will be fun since I don't use characters in my escalation league games either. He has chosen to fill out his two HQ choices with a Librarian and a Captain and his command squad. The Command squad is fully loaded with a banner bearer, apothecary, champion, and vets, all rolling out in a rhino. His elite choices are a 5 man squad of Sternguard veteran marines in a razorback and a dread with autocannons and a storm bolter. His troop choices are a bit light, but they come out to two 5 man marine squads in razorbacks. Finally his fast attack is a 5 man squad of Vanguard assault veteran marines. All of his razorbacks are armed with twin linked plasma guns and lascannons, a very nasty combo. The entire package is a whole lot of armor and mobility that I am a bit worried about since my daemons are not built to crack armor for the most part.

Deployment and Terrain:

Being a special mission from the Battle Missions book, the terrain was set up by the store manager at the GW Shop for us, with 6 pieces of terrain on the table it was a bit crowded but a change for once since I'm used to playing on low terrain tables lately. The table was cut in half diagonally per the mission rules, and 3 objectives were set up, one on a table edge, one in the middle of the table, and one between these two objectives. We rolled off to see who would be attacker and defender, and I won the roll off. After reading the mission I chose to be defender this time, and set up was done. Under the mission rules the attacker does not set up anything, and comes onto the table edge from his half of the table on turn one. By being the defender I deep strike in and force him to come on from his table edge, making it harder for him to reach me on turn one, while giving me the ability to drop anywhere on the table thanks to demonic assault. While the mission states the defender may not put any units in reserve, I am daemons and the entire army is in reserve under its codex rules which always over rule mission rules. Finally the mission gives the defenders entire army the Hit & Run universal rule, which was a nasty bonus for me! I rolled to see how the gods were feeling today, the two heralds with units of Horrors and Plaguebearers for retinues, along with the 2 big guys were my choice units to drop since both heralds had icons to help deep strike. To the pleasure of the Gods, they were not on my side that day. Everything else which accounted for most of my Khorne strike force would be in first.

Turn 1

Space Marines- The Howling Griffons had no choice but to roll onto the table in force. With one troop choice each teaming up to either the Sternguard or the Command Squads. The Dread and Vanguard joined up with the command squad group and pushed forward.

Daemons- Enter the Daemons! Since my chosen half was not allowed to enter this time, the forces of khorne make the drop in first. They are my heavy hitters when it comes to close combat so I want to hide them as much as I can while keeping them close to the marines for counter attack reasons. The hounds drop a bit off of their target but still come out ok, the smaller 10 man bloodletter unit falls on target behind a building which will give them cover saves, while the larger 16 man bloodletter squad was dropped near the middle objective. The smaller bloodletter unit has an icon so I wanted to protect them, while also holding the 2nd objective if possible. The larger bloodletter unit I placed out close to the marines for bait, to keep the marines occupied with them while the other bloodletter unit helps bring in the rest of the army. Finally the hounds were my mobile counter attack, with cavalry rules they are nasty chargers even if they are not power weapons they still throw a lot of dice on the table.

Turn 2

Space Marines- The Marines take a moment to check out the new enemy in the area. With the large number of khorne forces so close to the marines, they took a more aggressive stance on the larger bloodletter squad and took the bait I was counting on him to take. He detatched one troop squad to swoop in from a flank while the Vanguard came from the oppisite flank. The Sternguard also came out to play in their area but were out of range. The Vanguard took a shot at the daemons which was a bad choice since I pulled enough models to deny him the assault range for them. The other area of the marine force took shots at the smaller bloodletter unit and took down some of their number, and the razorback swooping in from the side took a shot at the flesh hounds taking some down as well.

Daemons- Turn 2 begins with the horrors coming in from deep strike. I chose not to use the icon on the table and instead took a risk in trying to take down the sternguard with them by dropping behind enemy lines. BIG MISTAKE! The unit scattered into the sternguard and then they were destroyed thanks to mishap. Tzeentch has chosen to stay out of this battle with both the herald and the horrors now dead to me for the rest of the game. This didn't stop Khorne from getting his skulls today, as the bloodletters now able to move head for the vanguard squad. Meanwhile the hounds and the other bloodletter squad move out to counter the marine thrus from the flanks. Finally the center khorne unit charges into the vanguard causing a lot of damage, the resulting battle leaving one lone vanguard standing.

Turn 3

Space Marines- The marines charge into the battle! The Dread closes in to join the central combat, while the sternguard sweep in one flank trying to take down the smaller bloodletter unit, the same with the razorback in the other side while dropping his marines out to shoot. Casualties are high for the smaller bloodletter unit, but they do survive the shooting from the marines. Meanwhile the Dread charges into the meele in the middle, but does not do anything to the enemy mob, while the vanguard goes down for the count. The central close combat mess continues!

Daemons- Time to put in a call for reinforcements! Nurgle answers the call sending down a Daemon Prince and the Herald with his plaguebearers! Khorne gets a second wind as the hounds seek out the exposed marine squad and the bloodletters go after the sternguard. The flesh hounds fleet and assault the marine squad hard, causing all but one marine to die in the assault, with the last one making a run for the table edge with the hounds in hot persuit! On the other side the bloodletters thrash the sternguard to a pulp and collect the skulls for the skull throne today! In the center the dread does very little in killing bloodletters again, but the bloodletters take advantage of the hit and run rule and break the combat cycle. The arrival of nurgle means a second line of troops and heavy hitters is now ready to step in when khorne calls it a day.

Turn 4

Space Marines- The marines need to turn this game around and this is the turn they need to do it in! The command squad must save the day! The razorbacks and rhinos move into position to better provide fire support. The lone marine from the squad attacked by the hounds runs off the table to fight another day. The command squad that had jumped out of a moving rhino last turn are free to move and attack this turn now. After a turn of some bad shooting the marines move in to assault. The central objective is once again the center of the action with the command squad and dread leading the charge into the bloodletter squad again. The attack is brutal and the bloodletter numbers are cut down by a good number, but khorne stays to fight another turn and claim more skulls. The marines take a heavy number of casualties for the assault as well.

Daemons- The last actor of this drama arrives! The greater daemon of nurgle is on the scene, using the heralds icon to land the great daemon has his eye set on that dreadnought. Meanwhile the Daemon Prince is knocking around a razorback full of marines. The Plaguebearers are sent off the secure an open objective by the table edge with the herald following the greater daemon. Finally the hounds sweep around to help the bloodletters in the middle. The assaults are fast and furious! The prince is able to take out one of the weapons on the razorback. The hounds charge into the middle battle to help wound the captain while the bloodletters take out the librarian still in the fight.

Turn 5

Space Marines- The captain stands alone holding off the hoards of chaos with his sidekick dread. The armor moves around and unloads on the prince assaulting the razorback. He takes a lot of fire from the other tanks and is wounded severly. The battle in the middle continues with the captain taking another wound but dishing out some pain too. The lone bloodletter is able to break off from the attack and prepare a counter charge in the bottom of the turn.

Daemons- Time to clean up and win this game! The Greater Daemon moves closer to the battle, while the plaguebearers secure one objective, and the herald and prince make for assaulting some tanks. The Greater Daemon joins the assault in the middle and smashes the dread into a wreck on his first assault. The lone bloodletter assaults back in and along with the hounds takes down the captain in combat. The Prince is able to shake the razorback while the herald fails to do anything. The tide has now turned and it is in our favor!

Turn 6

Space Marines- In an odd turn of fate for me turn 6 is to be had in this game. Most of the time my games are over at turn 5, but this game got an extra turn of carnage. The marines are out for blood now as the troops exit the razorback and the other tanks move in to help take down the prince who falls to marine shooting. The lone razorback close to the middle takes out the last bloodletter of the big unit and that objective is now free of troops of any kind holding it. There isn't much else the marines can do this turn.

Daemons- The daemons have secured 2 objectives now, one by nurgle and one by khorne. The prince might be dead but the hounds and herald assault one more take one last time taking out its weapons and imobilizing it in the process. With this last assault the game ends in VICTORY!!!

Final Thoughts: The win now brings me up to 3-2 for the league and I am now in positive territory for once. The higher the points the nastier these daemons get. I've still to acutally consider using a character which I am trying to avoid. This game was a good one and one that could have gone wrong for me since my chosen units didn't get in first. The loss of Tzeentch from this battle played almost no part in the outcome which was good to see, since the loss was hard to take when it happend. My MVP this time has to be the 16 model khorne bloodletter unit in the middle. They played the role of bait well enough that they pulled a good chunk of the marine bodies to them, and still survived the carnage. The unit was worth every point I paid for them this time.

Daemons: Pink Horrors of Tzeentch and The Changeling

Well in keeping with the running theme here, I have finished a unit of Tzeentch Pink Horrors for my daemon army. I was never really interested in the metal versions of this unit, so when these cool new plastic ones came out last year I jumped on adding a unit to my growing army. The shooting ability was a boost to the range power of the army, since most of my army is made up of close combat khorne and durable nurgle units. In addition to the horrors I am also adding the Changeling model to the unit. While a cool upgrade, the model makes a great Herald of Tzeentch model when I need to field one. The abilities of the changeling are a lot of fun and can really throw some chaos into the enemy force when he can use his power. This is my first new complete unit since last year’s iron painter at the bunker where most of my already painted units were finished. So Tzeentch finally has a foothold in my army!

W5 Escalation League Battle Report: Daemons vs IG

Week 5 starts another points level for the league, with week 4 being left as an open week for make up games I took some time to work on painting my army a little more. Now to my surprise I am facing another army, this time the Imperial Guard come out to play. With another random mission scheduled from the main rulebook again, I once again am playing a loot counters battle with no less then a full 5 counters again, lots of terrain to take, but I have more points to build the army up for its mission this time.......Lets take a look...

The Armies:

Chaos Daemons-

Meanwhile the other units already in the army get built up a bit more and get a few useful upgrades which will come in handy.

Imperial Guard-
The pride of Catachan have left the jungle to come out and play with my daemons. Guard are not an unknown army to, since they are perhaps my #1 army choice of mine so I have an advantage of what they can do on the battlefield. With Straken leading his fellow Catachans into battle, this army is another special character enhanced force which will prove to be a challenge. At first I am seeing a lot of armor come out, with an Executioner, Demolisher, and Hellhound on the table that is a lot of firepower and high armor to deal with. I am glad I had the points for my 2 new monstrous creatures to join my force just in time!

Deployment and Terrain:

I allowed my opponent to roll for the number of terrain pieces this time since he rolled for deployment type. To my luck he rolled only 1 piece of terrain for each of us, another open battlefield, how lucky for me! The table was fairly empty with lots of open ground to move and shoot thru. Pitched battle was the deployment of choice this time, so lets see all that sweet guard armor on the table! A Hellhound, Executioner, and Demolisher rolled onto the table edge. Straken also rolls on in his own personal chimera command tank. Along with the armor a platoon of Catachans with special weapons squads, and mortar squad are deployed. A small unit of Rattlings also made a scout move onto the table into a near by building to snipe from. Finally a veteran squad will also deploy as a second troop choice for the army, the guard were ready to do battle. I rolled to see how the gods were feeling tonight, the two heralds with units of Horrors and Plaguebearers for retinues,along with the 2 big guys were my choice units to drop since both heralds had icons to help deep strike. To the pleasure of the Gods, they were on my side that day. Everything else which accounted for most of my Khorne strike force would be in reserve.

Turn 1

Imperial Guard- The guard chose to go first, and I failed to grab the chance to go first. The guard make a mad dash for the loot counters near by. With both battle tanks covering the flanks the infantry moved out to take and hold the objectives on the table.

Daemons- Enter the Daemons! With the guard spread out so far my strategy this time was to attack one flank and roll up the army, while taking down as many of his troop choices as I could get my troops to assault. He low number of troops was an area I planned to exploit. So I dropped most of my force in the middle of the biggest concentration of infantry, I wasn't scared of getting stuck in with them, especially the nurgle troops. Meanwhile the Greater Daemon had a mission to break the tank on this flank and bust open the area to all kinds of chaos! The Prince was there for back up and to attack targets of opportunities. The only unit that didn' come down near the others was my Tzeentch squad that was out to hunt an enemy troops squad. After a turn of firing from the horrors that squad was wiped out, and the objective was free for the taking!

Turn 2

Imperial Guard- Turn two and the guard strike back! The Demolisher has to take down that Greater Daemon NOW! So it will unload everything into that monster causing 2 wounds on the daemon. Thanks to first rank, second rank orders the infantry squad unloads on the plaguebearers and take down a few of daemons in the fire fight. The Prince takes his share of fire but survives the storm to take his revenge on the guard later on. Finally the Tzeentch forces take the brunt of the guard wrath as the remaining squads unload on the unit, thanks to some crazy saves it take all that firepower to take down the squad and herald saving my other daemons from taking any further damage.

Daemons- Turn 2 brings in some of my reserve Khorne forces, as the Flesh Hounds drop thanks to the nurgle herald, meanwhile a squad on Bloodletters drop near a far off objective and hold the line there. The khorne forces take this time to spread out and prepare for the next turn to assault. With the turn on my nurgle forces rush into attack moving out to attack various forces. The Greater Daemon turns on the demolisher that didn't move this turn, blowing up the tank in the process, the resulting explosion taking down some of the guard beside the tank. The nurgle herald broke off and assaulted the squad next to the tank with the explosion helping to cut down the numbers of the guard squad for close combat. The results caused the battle to end in a draw. Meanwhile the plaguebearers rush into the building and launch and assault on a guard heavy weapons squad and special weapons squad. The resulting battle ends with both guard squads running for their lives from the demonic assault and the nurgle infantry taking another objective. Finally the Daemon Prince runs thru the building and comes out on the other side to assault the Hellhound, smashing it as well since it didn't move this turn either. Two tanks down the guard took a heavy hit this turn, and I took 2 objectives in the process!

Turn 3

Imperial Guard- Straken Strikes back! This turn will see the guard leader jump into the action, moving to support the few guard units still fighting on the flank he rolls into the fray to rally his forces. The heavy weapons squad runs off the table, but the special weapons squad is able to rally thanks to the Get Back In The Fight order from Straken. Meanwhile the main objective of the guard firepower this time is the daemon prince, taking fire from the opposite flank where the last russ tank is waiting and holding the line. Taking some wounds in the process the prince makes it thru the fire. Meanwhile the nurgle herald wins his combat with the infantry squad but he lets them get away. The unit makes a mad dash for the table edge.

Daemons- The tide is turning in the daemons favor now. The last unit of Bloodletters chose to stay out of the fight for another turn. Meanwhile the other units rush to attack, the greater daemon turns on the platoon command squad assaulting the squad and make quick work of the squad, then it turns to yell BOO! at the retreating infantry squad. The herald makes dash for the rallied special weapons squad, catching them in close combat but resulting in a draw. The flesh hounds climb the building to take care of those pesky rattlings. The plaguebearers and bloodletters stay where they are and hold the objectives. Finally the prince makes a mad dash for the Strakenmobile, resulting in only shaking the tank. The turn helped me clean up my flank and establish my battle lines for sure now.

Turn 4

Imperial Guard- BOO! See you later troopers, as the infantry squad that had fought the herald ran off the table to fight another day. Meanwhile the Strakenmobile rolled away from the prince who was now front and center to take everything shooting from the guards last few units. BOOM! BANG! FLASH! The prince is sent packing home back to the warp thanks to some good guard shooting. The nurgle herald continues to hold the special weapons squad at bay as the guard win this round but the herald sticks around for more combat.

Daemons- Reinforcements time! I was a bit ballsy with this unit since I just about have the game. I chose to drop a 16 man bloodletter squad in an open area in front of the guard lines, to take an open objective, I figured the guard couldn't blast enough of the bloodletters. Meanwhile the greater daemon moved to support its little brother herald dealing with the guard squad. The flesh hounds begin making their way out of the building to get ready for another strike.

Turn 5

Imperial Guard- FIRE!! Was the word of the day as the guard turned every weapon it still had on the newly arrived bloodletters. After tons of guard weapons unloading only 3 bloodletters had survived the onslaught. Meanwhile the herald finally cause a wound on the squad it was locked with, but the unit still holds and passes its leadership.

Daemons- Time to clean up and take the last of the objectives. The greater daemon finally makes the close combat near by and wrecks the guardsmen in the process. The damaged bloodletter squad makes a dash for the open objective and take it. Finally the flesh hounds catch the Strakenmobile and blow it up in the close combat rush, causing the hounds to take a few losses of their own, but Straken is now walking home and he also took a few casualties in the explosion! At the end of the turn I let my opponent roll to see if another turn would needed and he rolled a 1, which meant the battle was done and I claimed victory once more! WOO HOO!!! With 3 counters being held by my troops versus his 1 held by the veterans while one was contested between Straken and the Flesh Hounds, the win was mine!

Final Score:
Dave/Chaos Daemons: 3 Loot Counters
Felix/Imperial Guard: 1 Loot Counter

Winner: Chaos Daemons

Final Thoughts: Another great game in my ongoing Daemon education. As the points climb my army is becoming a meaner force to face down. Guard armor was not as effective this time and I got lucky I caught a lot of it stationary. I think the choice of dropping my initial force into the middle of his biggest concentration of troops was the wise choice. Once I got into close combat the guardsmen ran for the hills and the entire flank folded on its self. It's hard to chose an MVP this time from my army, so I'm going with the whole Nurgle Force, they took it to the enemy very quick and nasty for once. Although I do have to give the horrors props since they took the brunt of the fire for the first turn which was crucial to saving the other units in the army at the time. I still have one more game in this points range, we shall see what new surprise awaits next time!

Escalation League: 1500 Points, Round 3 FIGHT!!

Last week began the 1500 point round of the league. Week 4 was a open week to make up games, with weeks 5 and 6 being set aside for this points level. As you can see by the picture below my display board is getting a bit crowded. I chose to fill out my troop choices a little more, the nurgle troops got a bit fatter to help with supporting the herald. I also brought in a new unit of bloodletters to bring more nasty power weapon death to the army. Now that I am going into higher points I am going to see more armor, so its time to bring in the heavy hitters of the army in the form or a Daemon Prince and Greater Daemon of Nurgle. This was a good choice since the first game in this level is going to be against Imperial Guard. Still no major upgrades for the big guys, but we can wait for the 2K range to build them up to a proper force to be reckon. Well here I go again, wish me luck! See you on the other side!

W3 Escalation League Battle Report: Daemons vs Space Marines

Week 3 has come and gone, and another game is done for the league. This is my second 1K points game and this time we are playing a special scenario. Called Carnage, the idea is to place a counter in the middle of the table, and the closest unengaged infantry unit to the counter within 12 inches wins the game. I rolled the deployment and got quarters once again, which won’t matter for the Daemons but will for my opponents Space Marines......Lets take a look...

Points: 1000 Points Per Player
Mission: Carnage (Special Scenario)

The Armies:

Chaos Daemons-
This time around thanks to the higher points I was able to beef up some units with some nice upgrades, while bringing in another force to join the legion from the Lord of Change…Tzeentch! Along with my original 500 point force, I was able to add a few more flesh hounds to the unit to beef it up more, the Plaguebearers were upgraded with some Noxious Touch, and the herald was given a few upgrades to make him nastier. Finally a new force joined the ranks, a Herald of Tzeentch, along with a unit of Horrors to give my army some shooty goodness. Both Heralds were upgraded to Icons to help bring in my forces and avoid scatter mistakes.

Space Marines-
This time around I am facing another Space Marine army in the 1K points range. This is a themed Salamanders list out of the regular Space Marine codex. By Salamanders theme I mean one thing, and we all know what that thing is....Forgefather Vulkan He'stan of course! Along with the Forgefather, this army is built with 3 Attack Bikes with Multimeltas, a Land Raider Crusader, a basic Rhino, and finally 2 Tactical Squads with Flamers and Plasma Cannons, which will be broken down into 5 man combat squads for the game. Again, I am a bit worried about taking on the land raider, since I have nothing really to counter it, but it's a crusader so I should be ok for most of its firepower. The Character as always will be a tough one to beat, and his ability with flamer type weapons will be annoying, but I will deal with it. The army is fairly a small one for the points, but when you have a Land Raider and a Special Character eating up your points your army isn't going to be that big.

Deployment and Terrain:

He won the roll off and he chose to go first this time and move first. We dropped 2 building templates on the table with one on top of the center objective and another beside it with a small ally between buildings. The table was fairly empty with lots of open ground to move and shoot thru. With quarters again being the deployment choice he selected his quarter of choice in one of the more open areas of the table. The 2 combat squads with plasma cannons were placed on the table, along with the Rhino, Attack Bikes, and Land Raider. Vulkan and his 5 man retinue resided in the land raider, while the other combat squad took residence in the rhino. I rolled to see how the gods were feeling tonight, the two heralds with units of Horrors and Plaguebearers for retinues were my choice units to drop since they both had icons to help deep strike. To the pleasure of the Gods, they were on my side that night. Everything else which accounted for most of my Khorne strike force would be in reserve.

Turn 1

Space Marines- First turn his entire army was moving and running close to the objective. The rhino rolled up beside and deployed its force to support the other 2 combat squads.

Daemons- Enter the Daemons! Leading his nurgle forces, my herald would touch down first in an open area, a bit ballsy but they are nurgle so they can take the heat if they have too, the drop saw them pushed back to the table edge a little bit. The Tzeentch forces would shoot for the ally between buildings and arrive on target. The nurgle forces would run in the shooting phase to spread out and move closer to the space marines. Meanwhile the horrors and herald unloaded on the flamer combat squad that was in the rhino, the shooting resulted in 3 marines dead and passed its leadership roll. First Blood To The Daemons!

Turn 2

Space Marines- Turn two saw the marines with a bit of a black eye from the horrors, but the counter attack was on! The marine vehicles backed off to a safe distance and out came Vulkan with his combat squad retinue from the land raider. The Plaguebearers were about the take a heavy toll from the marine forces in retaliation for the first round of shooting. Meanwhile the 2 man squad moved in on the horrors, and they would get the attention of the plasma cannon squads as well. The shooting went well for the marines as both daemon groups came under fire, the problem was that I was making some incredible saves for the army, something that would be a major problem for my opponent this night. The Gods of Chaos were indeed on my side this night! Out of all the fire poured into the nurgle forces only 3 bearers were taken down and the herald took one wound. The unit that took it hardest was the horrors, losing half their numbers thanks to the plasma cannons and marine shooting. With shooting done it was time to get in close and do some dirty fighting! Vulkan lead the assault on the nurgle forces, taking down the herald in one vs one combat, this would be his only win as the other marines failed to kill anything else. The other smaller combat squad jumped into the middle of the horror squad but that also resulted in tied combat. My forces were now tied up with marines, and I had lost one of my icons which didn't help me.

Daemons- Turn 2 brings with it 2 of my reserve units onto the table, the second Plaguebear unit and my Bloodletters! Two units that are very welcome additions to the assault on the marines and will make for an interesting counter attack force. The Bloodletters would use the icon to land between the combat and building, while the plaguebearers would be a drop right on top of the counter and in the building, which will cost me at least one plaguebearer for dropping into terrain, oh well that's the risk we take. Both units will bunker down in the building to hold out for the incoming fire, the bloodletters got enough models in the building to get a cover save, while the plaguebearers spread out to cover the objective. The close combat continued, with the horrors taking more losses to combat but my saves making it only a loss of one, Vulkan and his marines were stuck taking down 3 bearers in the combat.

Turn 3

Space Marines- The Marines began to counter the arrival of the new daemon forces on the table, the center building became a bunker under siege by the forces not in close combat, one of the plasma cannon squads moved to a new position while the land raider and attack bikes moved to get better shots at the occupants of the building. The land raider unloaded completely into the squad of plaguebearers and I did not take a single wound from the attack, if that is not a sign that the gods of chaos were not on my side this night, I don't know what is! Heh! Although the other marine forces did cause a few losses on the squad the bloodletters survived without a loss to their name. The close combat continued to take its toll on my forces but they continued to hold out, the horrors lost another of their number and the plaguebearers took more losses but held Vulkan in place which would be crucial for the next round!

Daemons- Time to cut down the numbers of these marines! With two squads already locked up and only 2 marine combat squads the bloodletters rushed out for a counter attack! The flesh hounds chose not to enter again, and the plaguebeaders held their ground in the building since they had gone to ground in the previous turn. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!! The bloodletters rushed out to take down one of the plasma cannon units, along with freeing the horrors in the process. The battle was brutal but Khorne got his skulls this night, as both marine squads were taken down completely, freeing the bloodletters to retreat back into the building and allow the horrors to fall back into the building too. The cost of course was the death of the first plaguebearer unit which was well worth the cost, since Vulkan was held for the needed time to bring the bloodletters into the game. Now all combat was done and was once again an open game to see who would take the objective!

Turn 4

Space Marines- Time was running out and the daemons had firm control of the objective. The marines had to pour every bit of fire into that building and clean out the daemons if they were going to win this game. With Vulkan free now, he was able to bring his heavy flamer into the game, the other marine assets spread out to provide some good fire support. The marines unloaded with everything they had, but it was no good the daemons held the building! The bloodletters took the brunt of the fire, but at least half of the squad survived and the horrors and plaguebearers took some wounds but were still on the table after the heavy fire cleared out. YES!!!

Daemons- FINISH HIM!!! This turn saw the final nail on the marine coffin slammed into place, as the flesh hounds chose this time to enter the fun. I dropped them in the ally way ready to rush out and join the fun. The Plaguebearer and Bloodletters chose this time to rush out and finish the marine troops once and for all. The horrors chose to hold the objective while the herald joined the fun rushing out to take a shot at Vulkan! The shooting was quick but effective as the horrors ran instead of shooting, as did the flesh hounds to spread out a bit, the herald took his shot on Vulkan and took down 2 of the marines in his squad. Once again BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, as the bloodletters rushed Vulkan's unit and the plaguebearers rushed the last plasma cannon squad. The results were awesome!! The bloodletters finished off the marines, and Vulkan took a wound, which resulted in little Vulkan turning tail and running for home! The last marine combat squad also failed and turned to run with the plaguebearers keeping really close by....VICTORY IS MINE!

Turn 5

Turn 5 was cut short due to the store we were playing in closing for the night. Although at this point in the game it was a done deal, since both Vulkan and his last combat squad were on the run, and would continue to run since daemons were close by both units to not be able to rally. There was also the matter of the horrors sitting on the objective at the end of turn 4 and there were no more marine infantry units available to contest the objective. Therefore we both agreed to call the game at the start of turn 5. Another fun game had by all and my first win the league! WOO HOO!!

Final Score:
Dave L/Chaos Daemons: 1 Unit Holding the Objective
Dave M/Space Marines: No Units Close to Objective

Winner: Chaos Daemons

Final Thoughts: As always a Dave vs Dave game is a fun time for Team Dave, and this was another good game for the books. I had a great time, and it was fun to finally see my daemon army work the way it was meant to work, the combo of Khorne entering later on in the game was effective to the max. My MVP unit of choice was a hard one to pick this time, but I have to go with the Bloodletters, they are brutal in close combat and they proved how nasty they are in this game. Although all my units shined in this game, the plaguebearers did their job holding Vulkan till the bloodletters were ready for him, and the horror got to be effective in shooting some too, finally the herald did his job as an icon. The ridiculous amounts of saves I was making in this game also helped me a lot, even with high power weapons I was brushing off whole attacks from that land raider as if nothing hit me, truly awesome!...Until Then!

W2 Escalation League Battle Report: Daemons vs Space Wolves

Week 2 is here, and we now move up to 1K point games. The first game for this level is a standard random mission out of the main 40K rulebook. I let my opponent roll the mission, which came up loot counters, I rolled the deployment and got quarters, which won’t matter for the Daemons but will for his Space Wolves. Jeremy rolled a full load of 5 counters for the game so this was set to be a high takes mission.....Lets take a look...

Space Wolf Space Marines-
To my surprise I was lucky enough to draw a battle with a newer army in the form of the Space Puppies. I’ve played a few Space Wolves armies in the past and had some good games against them, this time I will be facing the newest codex versions. At this level of points Jeremy brings with him 2 Dreadnaughs in Drop Pods, both with assault cannons and heavy flamers, 2 units of Grey Hunters with Flamers and Plasmaguns, with the plasma unit in a drop pod, 2 units of Long Fangs with rocket launchers, and all lead by a Wolf Guard Commander. I will be trying to avoid those Dreads as much as I can since I have nothing really to take them down.

Deployment and Terrain:

The 5 counters were deployed all over the table, I had 2 and he dropped 3 since he rolled mission. He went ahead and deployed both Long Fangs in one building in his quarter, while deploying the flamer Grey Hunters close to the center of the table along with the Wolf Guard Commander, the rest were placed in reserve. I rolled to see how the gods were feeling tonight, the two heralds with units of Horrors and Plaguebearers for retinues were my choice units to drop since they both had icons to help deep strike. To the pleasure of the Gods, they were not on my side that night. Everything else which accounted for most of my Khorne strike force would be first on the table!

Turn 1

Space Wolves- First turn saw the Grey Hunters make a run on the center loot counter. Moving and running close to their objective, while the long fangs looked on ready to strike.

Daemons- Enter Khorne!! First the Flesh Hounds made a jump onto the table, scattering a bit out of range and falling within sight of the long fangs weapons. The second Plaguebearer unit came next dropping onto a building template close to my table edge, as luck would have it they scattered into an open area next to the building avoiding any problems. Finally the Bloodletters dropped beside the flesh hounds to form a killer khorne battle line ready to unleash. After some quick running to scatter the units some the table was set for round 2.

Turn 2

Space Wolves- Turn two saw the entry of 2 units of wolves in reserve. First a Dreadnaught and also the squad of Grey Hunters with Plasmaguns, both units entered in drop pods and landed close to my khorne attack force. The 1st grey hunter squad moved from the other flank of my flesh hounds, and all 3 units boxed in my khrone forces. With the shooting round the long fangs unloaded frag rockets on my flesh hounds, but thanks to cover saves the damage was not as bad as expected. The grey hunters with flamers unloaded next, followed by their bolters and a plasma pistol. The resulting combined firepower took down the unit of flesh hounds. Next came the heat on the bloodletters, both the 2nd squad of grey hunters and dread unloaded bolters, an assault cannon, plasmaguns, and a heavy flamer on the unit. The wolves lost one gunner to overheat from a plasmagun, even with this and 2 drop pod storm bolters, one bloodletter survived the onslaught to fight.

Daemons- Turn 2 brings in the rest of my army as they drop close to the long fangs hide out and way from the grey hunters. The horrors with herald land in a good spot to take down the 1st unit of grey hunters who are waiting to move out. Meanwhile the nurgle force will land behind the horrors some and spread out. The 1st unit of plaguebearers will make a run for the objective on my side of the table. The long bloodletter makes his way to the unit where the horrors are going to fire into. The shooting round starts and the horrors are good shooters costing the grey hunters a few casualties, and putting one casualty on the wolf guard commander. The nurgle forces run to spread out. Finally the lone bloodletter assaults the hurt grey hunter unit but fails to wound, the grey hunters do not fail and take out the last of my khorne daemons. BUMMER!

Turn 3

Space Wolves- Enter the last drop pod and this time close to my recently arrived units. Meanwhile the grey hunters and the other dread make their way across the battlefield to join the battle. The long fangs had to shoot straight down from the windows to blast the horrors with frag rockets. The fire was heavy but thanks to the saves the unit made it out fairly well. The 1st grey hunter unit joined in the slaughter and unloaded on the unit, taking down the herald in the process. The 2nd dread turned on the 2nd nurgle unit with the herald. Thanks to saves only a very few plaguebearers suffered any wounds. The other wolf units were out of range to bring their firepower to bear.

Daemons- The units are beat but we can still win! The horrors moved out to face down the weaker grey hunter unit. Meanwhile the 2nd plaguebearers unit moved into the building with the long fangs. The 1st unit of plaguebearers attempted to climb up to the objective but failed. Shooting took down another wolf from the grey hunter unit they were facing. With no choice left to me, I assaulted the grey hunters with my horrors, which turned into a horror for the horrors! Meanwhile the nurgle herald lead his squad into combat with one of the long fang units. Combat was joined and the result was a tie in combat losses.

Turn 4

Space Wolves- Time was running out and no objectives were being taken yet. The 1st dread and 2nd grey hunters continued to cross the battlefield. Meanwhile the new 2nd dread turned on my 1st nurgle squad. The top most unit of long fangs came down one floor to join the melee, No Guts No Glory said Jeremy. CHARGE!! The 1st grey hunter squad tried and failed to join the long fangs in the battle. Shooting was light since all units were all in combat or out of sight. The 1st and 2nd dreads unloaded into the 1st nurgle unit with assault cannons and a heavy flamer but due to cover saves and feel no pain losses were light. In a comical Kool-Aid Man moment the 2nd dread BUSTED thru a building wall and assaulted the nurgle unit. OH YEAH!!! The resulting combat was less than spectacular for the dread and it was now trapped in a nurgle swamp, ending my chance to take the buildings objective! Heh! Meanwhile the 2 long fang units failed to break my nurgle unit in close combat.

Daemons- All of my units were involved in close combat. So no movement or shooting involved anymore. The long fangs and plaguebearers continued the stalemate with the herald missing all together. ARGH!!! Meanwhile in the more comical combat of the Kool-Aid Man vs Nurgle as we called it, once again the dread wounds once, and he claimed one kill this round! WOO HOO!

Turn 5

Space Wolves- The end is near!!! The 2nd grey hunters unit continued to try and take the middle objective but failed to reach it. Meanwhile the 1st unit got to the objective in the long fang hideout and held it. ARGH!! No shooting so on to close combat!! Bring it! The Wolf Guard Commander joined the fun with the long fangs, at which point he failed totally to wound! With 3 wolf units in the mix you know this has to end bad right. Not so, the herald took no hits, but his unit was cut down to 2 plaguebearers. The counter attack resulted in another wound bringing the combat to a loss, but thanks to saves and feel no pain again no plaguebearers were lost. Meanwhile the other combat was a total draw once again, where the dread landed one wound and I saved it. The Power of Nurgle is STRONG!!!!

Daemons- Time to turn the tables? On to Combat, once again the power of nurgle would see the long fangs and wolf guard commander fail to do much, while the nurgle forces also failed to do much resulting in another stalemate. ARGH! Oh look the dread in the other combat landed two hits….Oh….Wait he failed to wound with both, one wound…and I saved it!! WOO HOO!! Nurgle Protects! With a roll of the dice….the Game Ends!!! As no turn 6 is to be had.

Dave/Chaos Daemons- 0 Loot Counter

Winner: Space Wolves Space Marines

Final Thoughts: Well it was a chance to try out the daemons on the new Space Wolves and I had a good time even if I lost once again. The two dreads were a pain, and having nothing to deal with them was frustrating. Once again we had a very close game even with so many loot counters on the table only one was taken and that was all that it took to win this game. The loss of my heavy hitting Khorne forces hurt my ability to take down the grey hunters. If I had to give anyone the MVP this time it has to be my plaguebearers, they held their own against some nasty combat. I also did not enjoy the fact that the wolves has counter attack, that was a very nasty ability that gave them more attacks, but I had high toughness to hold my own. Well I still have one more 1K Game so we shall see where that goes….Until Then!

Escalation League: 1K Points Rolling!

Last week began the 1000 point round of the league. Due to schedule issues I wasn't able to get my game in that week, but I will try and get both games in this week. 500 points was actually a closer game then I expected, and I had a good chance to get a tie, but my opponent won by 4 points out of the tie range. A fun game still, even if I lost.

I've been in contact with both players for my 1K games, and we are working a time and place to meet to get these games done and out. I hope to have something later in the week for a battle report. I am also trying to line up some bonus games with other players I am not normally playing in the league. At 1K I am adding a little bit of ranged firepower, and beefing up my regular units a little with a few tasty upgrades!

W1 Escalation League Battle Report: Daemons vs DE

So the escalation league is off and running this week! The first week begins with a 500 point skirmish for the league.....Lets take a look...

Points: 500 Points Per Player
Mission: Annihilation (Victory Points)
Set Up: Dawn Of War

The Armies:

Chaos Daemons-
My Chaos Daemons were a mix of Nurgle and Khorne lead by a Herald of Nurgle. This was just a small mix of what I had on hand that I enjoyed playing. The old standard in my trusty Plaguebearers and some added nastiness with some power weapon welding Bloodletters for fun. At 500 points I fit 2 troops, 1 HQ, and a Fast Attack of Flesh Hounds for fun.

Dark Eldar-
I had no idea what kind of army I was going to face, but I found it funny that I faced down some Dark Eldar in my first week. Funny because the last time I was in a League of this type my first game was against regular Eldar. Irony indeed! This was a themed list, my opponent used up his one special character spot to take Baron Sathonyx, a new character for this new army which allows him to take Hellions as troops. Along with the dark Baron, 2 units of Hellions joined him, and a 3 bike squad of Reavers making for a very quick force.

Deployment and Terrain:

I won the roll off so I chose to go second this time and made him deploy first and move first. We dropped 4 buildings and 1 wooded template on the table which was spread out fairly well. He dropped the mandatory 1 HQ and 2 troop choices on the table. I rolled to see how the gods were feeling tonight, as my Nurgle force was my chosen first drop to take the heat first and occupy the enemy a little. To my luck the Gods were on my side that night. Nurgle would be first on the table!

Turn 1

Dark Eldar- First turn didn't see the DE do much because there was nothing to do by mill about. The Reavers came onto the table from his table edge and zoom out to the middle of the table to prepare for the enemy.

Daemons- Enter Nurgle!! My Plaguebearers and Herald would drop as one unit. With a little bit of scatter they moved in close to the Reavers but didn't do much then spread out and prepare for the coming hit they would take. With high toughness and feel no pain I was confident in my troops to hold this first round till Khorne could make its entrance.

Turn 2

Dark Eldar- Turn two would see the pain begin to show. First the Reavers made a Bladevane attack on the nurgle unit. This took out 2 bearers in the attack, while his Hellions closed ranks and moved closer to the unit. The Hellions unloaded on the daemons, but thanks to saves no wounds were taken. WOO HOO!!

Daemons- Turn 2 brings in my Bloodletters! WOO HOO Power Weapons! Although thanks to scatter the unit lands on top of a Hellion unit, but I am lucky because the mishap only sends them back up into reserve for another turn to wait. The Flesh Puppies wait as well for another turn. Meanwhile my Nurlge forces will continue to take the heavy fire while trying to catch the hellions, who are way too fast for them and run away. COWARDS!

Turn 3

Dark Eldar- Top of turn 3 saw a lot of carnage of my nurgle forces. The dark eldar unloaded all kinds of weapons fire on the unit. Both units of hellions and the reavers unloaded everything! The results were heavy losses for me as 5 bearers fell to enemy fire from the 3 units, but they were still there. We aren't going away that easy!

Daemons- Reinforcements are here!! Both the Bloodletters and Flesh Hounds dropped onto the table this time. I dropped them behind the hellions to give them a good scarce and it worked! Meanwhile my nurgle force turned to face the reavers. Since they failed to move and shot instead, my nurgle force caught them in close combat! Finally some blood, as the nurgle force takes down the leader of the reaver squad, while taking no wounds in return. The crafty pointy ears hold in leadership causing them to stay locked with my daemons. At least I caught a unit finally. Now all the players are on the table...time for the carnage to really start!

Turn 4

Dark Eldar- With Khorne now on the table the hellions got out of dodge quick! Using all their speed and distance the hellions took off running away from the deadlier khorne units. The cowardly baron ran off with his unit back to his lines, while the other unit took off to support the reavers. Close combat was joined and both the hellions and reavers took down the 3 plaguebearers. The herald failed in its attack, and also failed in its fearless saves causing the unit to fall. Both of the units were free from combat and ready to take on the forces of Khorne!

Daemons- Unleash Khorne!!!! Both khorne units made a dash for both hellion units, the flesh hounds being a cav unit had the best chance of catching the unit they were chasing. After a shooting round of running and fleet both units were ready to strike. The Bloodletters were short, but not the hounds! The hellion unit that had just finished off my nurgle was in for a little counter charge from the flesh hounds. The Doggies put a bit of a hurt to the unit, but thanks to hit and run they pulled away and prepared to attack back in their turn.

Turn 5

Dark Eldar- Turn 5 would see another Bladevane attack from the reavers, this time on my flesh hounds. This caused no losses for the hounds and allowed the wounded hellion unit to make another attack on them as well. Meanwhile the baron and his unit unloaded on the bloodletters trying to cut down their numbers. Finally the hellions made their close combat charge into the hounds, but the combat caused them a lot of models, at which point he passed his leadership and stayed in the fight. Go Doggies!!!

Daemons- With one hellion left to face off against the flesh hounds the battle was a given to the forces of Khorne. Meanwhile the bloodletters turned on the new fresh target of the reavers that rushed into their sights thanks to the bladevane attack. With power weapons ready to slice and dice the bloodletters brought down both bikes in the same round they charged them. 2 Kills for my daemon forces! WOO HOO!

Turn 6

Dark Eldar- We rolled for random turn and we got another turn of combat. This time the baron came out to play, now that the odds were in his favor against the flesh hounds. The hellion unit came around the woods and unloaded on the hounds with all their weapons. This resulted in 2 more wounds for my hounds, and they soon took advantage and charged the hounds to finish them off. Taking them down on the same turn the baron and his minions charged the doggies.

Daemons- With nothing in range the bloodletters fell back into the ruins and prepared for a charge from the baron should another turn happen. After this we rolled and no turn would happen...End game!

Final Score:
Matt/Dark Eldar- 404 Victory Points
Dave/Chaos Daemons- 300 Victory Points

Winner: Dark Eldar

Final Thoughts: I haven't played a 500 point game in a good while, so it was fun getting in a quick game like this to see how daemons work on this points level. In hindsight I suppose the prudent choice would have been to at least take a unit of Horrors for the shooting aspect, but the Khorne/Nurgle connection is well known in the 40K background. Also I had no idea what I was going to face at this level, so I took a generic list that could take on almost anything, with the staying power of nurgle and the power weapons of khorne the mix is good. It's funny that if I had to pick an MVP for the daemons the Flesh Hounds would be my choice, an effective cavalry unit with furious charge. Heh, wait till I raise that unit to 14 Doggies! WOOF! As for the DE I would say the reavers are very effective, a very cool attack with that bladevane move, I think I will have to grab some for my future DE army I am working on now. It was a fun game and I was 4 points short of a Draw! Looking forward to 1K in the coming 2 weeks....so until then!

Escalation League: The 500 Point Start!

Well the time has come finally. The Escalation League kicks off tomorrow, and I have my first game at 500 Points lined up sometime this week. I’m really looking forward to this, since it’s been years since I’ve played in one of these and I had a lot of fun in the last league I took part in. My opponent schedule is lined up with all new people I have never played before, so this will be a fun event. So Let’s Get Ready To Rumble!!!

Below is my first list for the 500 point game. It’s a nice mix of both Nurgle and Khorne which are the two biggest contingents of my Daemon Legion. The Nurgle force will be my chosen force to drop in first to take the hit followed by the khorne forces to strike hard. The first game will be Annihilation with Victory Points instead of Kill Points…..At this level I have everything fully painted and finished as you can see from the picture below. I’ll be posting a battle report soon….so wish me luck!

Escalation League: Chaos Daemons....I Chose You!

This year our club, the Ineptus Astartes is running an escalation league starting in February. I was considering starting a whole new xeno race from the bottom up, but with so many projects in existence I chose a different route. I have chosen to use my recently started Chaos Daemons army for the event. I started painting this army mostly last year in May during an Iron Painter event. Originally most of the first units were meant to be used as lesser daemons for my various Chaos Space Marine armies, slowly I amassed a force that I could be used with the Daemon codex, and here I am today with a whole new army. I have only used the army in a few games as a Daemon force so I’m still new to the codex and what I can do with the units I have. I’m hoping to learn the ins and outs of this army by playing with it in the escalation league. The army is not fully painted and there are units still in the process of being finished. In the coming weeks I will chronicle my adventures with this army thru battle reports and painting updates. So for the next 9 or so weeks it’s going to be Daemon central on the Anarchy’s Heart!

So looking at my backlog of Daemon projects that I want to accomplish in this time the list is not as long as I expected it to be. A lot of the units are half finished so I should be able to finish them soon I hope. Let’s see what I have in the Daemon To Do List….

I think if I can at least get the majority of the partial painted group done it will be a successful accomplishment for the campaign. Most of it is well into being completed, as for the rest I am looking to trade the forgeworld prince possibly so he might slide off the list in the future, and the rest will be a gradual grinding away for the army. I’m not sure what faction the Soul Grinder will serve so it might be one of the last pieces to be finished. Right now Khorne and Nurgle dominate my army but Slaanesh is making a sizable rise into the ranks, this with The Masque already finished will make a good size component of the army. Finally I am hoping to make An'ggrath the centerpiece of this army when it is completed, a great model and a lot of fun to paint.

Daemons: Herald of Nurgle

A new addition to my Daemon forces. Finally finished my herald of nurgle for my Daemon forces. This is a Forgeworld model that comes with another model as part of a character from the Vraks War line. I never cared for the Daemon Prince that this guy came with, but I got lucky one day and traded some other models for the herald from a friend at the bunker one day. After a little work he is ready to lead my demonic nurgle forces into battle and just in time too, because he will be seeing major action soon.

Ah Nurglings....Can't leave home without them!

They call it The Claw! Now you know why.......

SPAWNS!!!!

SPAWNS!!! I have finally finished working on my Fast Attack choice for my Death Guard, Grey Death Legion army. Spawns are very random but are perfect for my walking Nurgle army. The randomness of the unit is also a nasty surprise in close combat, and multi wound critters like these are just so brutal in combat. They should work perfectly with my nurgle forces. Although they can also be used in my other CSM forces when needed too. 6 Spawns should fill up 2 of my Fast Attack choices nicely. Enjoy the Pictures!

2011 at the Anarchy's Heart

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Let's start this off with a proper hello! This last year marked a lot of activity for my Chaos Blog. Although towards the end of 2010 my activity here did fall off due to a massive Valhallan IG project for gamesday I still took some time to build my chaos forces when I had time. As you can see by my recent Chaos Apocalypse post the forces under the command of Arkos are still strong and growing each day. With the split of my imperial forces to another blog the content here will be pure Chaos and forces of disorder now. I am also going to be cutting back on my participation in the Tournament scene. I have done the rounds in the tournament scene for the last few years, and I am now at the point where I enjoy the painting and building hobby aspect of this hobby more then going from tournament to tournament. I still enjoy the casual gaming but with the battle bunker now gone, my casual gaming has been dropping off, still this doesn't mean I will not play anyone who want to throw down. In fact if plans go in the direction they are heading, I will see my share of gaming soon. The Ineptus Astartes club is planning to host a good size Escalation League and this blog will see a lot of action because of this event I hope. So let me share with you some thoughts on where I see the forces of Disorder are heading this year......

Alpha Legion and Legion of the Dragon: The primary force behind this blog. My Alpha Legion has been slowly working up this past year and right now it looks like they will be hiding among the stars for the foreseeable future. I still have 30 CSM troops to paint for this army, along with a Predator conversion, and possibly a Vindicator to go with the army. As for the LoD the IG Renegade forces have slowed down a lot to almost no action at this time. Mostly because of my involvement in my Valhallan army, one IG force at a time. Still I'm thinking about getting my Malcador tanks finally finished this year, along with a rattling force made out of Chaos Squats to join this force. I will also attempt to finish off the last platoon to bring them up to minimal size, and maybe a Marbo conversion. Last year I completed the conscript force, so we shall see what I can get done this time.

Grey Death Legion and Nurgle Allies: The GDL right now sits at the top of my list as my most complete force. Built to be a tournament army, this army was mostly built around its background but was also built to compete in the tournament circuit. I have a few things in the pipeline for the army to grow a little more in 2011. I hope to finally get the last Troop Choice finished this year, guess what kind it is. Heh! I also got Spawns making a appearance. Finally my second special character for this army might make it to my list finally straight out of the codex and in his terminator armor. As for allies, I am still not sure if I want bring the renegade War Pigs servants of decay into nurgles clutches. Right now the force is up to a full platoon and sentinel that serves as mercs for the LoD. The units were fun and easy to paint, so we shall see where I want to take this force this year. Its looking like a fun green year for Nurgle!

Chaos Daemons: While this army would usually be attached to my CSM forces above, last year it grew in size to earn its own status as an autonomous force. My Daemon forces have grown so large they now field at least one force from each Chaos Power and more reinforcement are in route from the Warp. I suppose this is good with the possible release of new Grey Knights this year my daemons will be the ones hunted this year perhaps. The big to do out of this army will be my Forgeworld Khorne Great Daemon, will I finally have time to finish this great project, time will tell. I really want to finish it and make it the centerpiece of this fun army.

Phalanx of the Bronze Face Necron Forces: My Necron army has laid in slumber since the days of the Medusa V world campaign, I am still unsure as to what this year will bring for them. I have a few units in the middle of being painted, so expect a few bits to show up here. I also picked up some BFG ships for the raider fleet. Since this is my only army with a Battle Fleet Gothic force I plan on growing this force more then the ground forces so if your a fan of BFG and Necrons keep an eye out. I might even get a few players around here to give me a game or two of BFG with this fleet finally. Heh!

Dark Eldar: If you told me last year at this time I would own some new DE toys by the end of the year, I would have laughed in your face. I have to say the sculpts of this new army are really cool. This is going to be a mostly hobby project, where I will paint what I like and not drive it based on the codex. With an Archon already finished, and a unit of Trueborn Warriors and Raider already waiting to get primed on my desk this will be a fun army to slowly build up one unit at a time. It should be interesting to see what I grab next for this army.....

Other Projects: As for other things like Super Heavies and Terrain, I am thinking of a few things that come to mind I want to try and get done this year. Maybe if I have time I'll finish up a ShadowSword I picked up from a friend before the bunker closed. I'm also thinking of making some chaosy terrain for my armies to showcase them on. I would also love to build another Subjugator titan force my CSM forces. There is also the Escalation League coming up which I need to chose an army to use for. Right now I am thinking of something GREEN!! I'm still unsure if I want to go with it or not, so I will hold my tongue till I am 100% sure. I will be posting about this soon

What's New At the Anarchy's Heart

As the year rolls to an end, my hobby time has been cut down a lot the last few months. Not to mention I took a break after my workload before Games Day this year. I have been slowly working on things on and off in both my Chaos and Imperial armies. This along with the holidays always slow down my blogging around this time of year. So not a whole lot has been posted recently. I am still working on some new units and a new army in sort of a way. Check it out!

A new addition to my Daemon forces, Tzeench has joined my armies with a unit of Horrors and The Changeling.....This unit has already proven to be a fun one in a few games already, it is earning its place in my forces already, the lord of change has given me a fun unit indeed!

Dark Eldar in the works....a unit of Elite Kabalite Trueborn to go with my new Archon. These new sculpts are really cool looking and fun to build. I also just picked up a new Raider to give these Trueborn a ride. I am also looking at the new Jetbike squadron, the models look real slick! This is going to get expensive....Heh!

As always more is always in the works for the forces of Chaos! I have another CSM Character soon joining my massive CSM forces. Along with him will come lots of spawns, and maybe another Dread. This on top of an Alpha Legion Predator, and some other goodies in store soon. Finally I am working a new army for my forces of Chaos, no not Dark Eldar....something Greener! More to come next year!

No, I'm usually not one to jump onto a bandwagon and start a new army with just any new codex release, god knows I have more then enough armies right now to keep me busy, but once I saw the pictures of the new Dark Eldar the new sculpts caught my eye. The new Archon model especially caught my interest from a pure model and paint POV, so I picked one up when it came out. After a little playing around with the paint scheme here are my results! A fun model to paint and fairly easy too with some good results.

Fire is not something I paint well....so we will call it Warp Magik for now!

Now I've gone and done it....I need to get a squad of troops and a raider to go with my Archon.....

Chaos Apocalypse!

last week GW did a feature on Apocalypse and armies people in the company owned. This got me thinking that I have never done a photo shoot of all my ready units in my chaos army. Chaos Renegades, Chaos Space Marines, and Chaos Daemons, I have never combined the entire mess into one whole army in all the years I have been painting and playing Chaos. Well today I corrected that little problem, as I broke out everything that was at least fully painted, based, and legal for an Apocalypse style army. I didn't bother with making formations, although I am sure some formation or two are in there. Oddly enough only one chaos power is not present in my army at the moment, can you guess who!? The army nearly took all the space on my dining room table, and even if I finished some of my half complete projects I don't know if I will have space for more on this table....Hmmmm...looks like I need a bigger table! ;)

Give or take a few points....Your looking at 9500 to 10K worth of Chaos on the table! Who's up for a 20K Game!

War Pigs Sentinel

A new army for my forces of Chaos! Who are the War Pigs!? They are a new side project in my ongoing Chaos armies. A force using the Servants of Decay and the original Defenders of Varks army list from Forge World. This army will be a themed Mercenary force made mostly out of old GW models. First up is this sentinel which I have posted about before. It is now finished and ready to join the battle line. So check out the photos and let me know what you think. Anarchy's Heart Motor Pool (Part 5)

Another update from the Motor Pool for you Legion fans! I have been doing a little bit of body work and painting on the new Predator for the crew. I swapped out the lascannon tips for dragon heads and I plan on doing the same with the sponsons. So far the body is looking good, with a few more touch ups it should be ready for the sponsons.

Battle Report: GDL vs Chaos Khorne Daemons (Part 2)

When we last left off our stinky heroes.....the jaws of Khorne death were closing in! The Horror!!

The battle didn't go so well for my left flanking squad as the entire squad was wiped out by the charging Bloodletters. On the other hand the Hounds took a stomping from my center force, but held on locking up a unit for another round of combat. One Oblit still holding the Prince down and keeping him busy.....and so we come to round 3....

ROUND 3:

Round 3 begins with Big Stinky leading the attack on the trapped Prince and Oblit. Will he make it!? I think so....Heh Heh Heh!

Meanwhile the center force continues to fire and back away slowly. Keeping the Blood Crushers busy.

After a busy shooty round, it's time to finish the combat! Big Stinky makes the charge in, but the Prince chooses to take out the Oblit who would pose a larger risk then Big Stinky. NNNOOOO!!! Poor Oblits, maybe next time! Big Stinky will get his revenge in as he strikes down the Khorne Prince in one round of combat!

Meanwhile my center force is able to take down the last few Hounds and put an end to that combat. This allowed the unit to fall back and gain some breathing space from the onrushing Blood Crushers. WOO HOO!!!

Well it's the bottom of the 3rd and the forces of Khorne are looking to take down a huge chunk of my army out of the game....the Blood Crusher charge in for the as the squad looks on, along with Skulltaker and Skarbrand the full might of Khorne is about the hit my center line. The last squad of Bloodletters arrives in the center line. Meanwhile Big Stinky is left on his own after his win with the Prince, but he isn't too alone...Bloodletters! The right flank is holding well with the Nurgle Prince leading the forces there.

The combat is brutal as two whole squads go down to the assault of Blood Crushers in the Center, and Bloodletters to the right flank. Not to mention Big Stinky takes a big hit from the Bloodletters on the left flank. No Mercy for Nurgle, Khorne wants its skulls back NOW!

ROUND 4:

All is not lost......As reinforcements arrive for our heroic Nurgle marines! YEAH!

My last squad walks onto the battlefield, and join the battle to stem the tide of Blood Crushers and Skarbrand. Meanwhile my Nurgle Prince leads his forces on the right flank against a squad of Bloodletters. The new arrivals blast away at the Blood Crushers, meanwhile my other remaining center squad joins force to bring the pain to the Blood Crushers.

Meanwhile Big Stinky continues to battle a lost cause on his flank, as Tzeentch(Daemon Player) takes this moment to express his opinion of the battle taking place....Thanks Chicken! Result....Big Stinky returns to the Warp! ARGH!

This is starting to take a turn for the worse for the forces of the GDL.....as one flank and objective is now in full Khorne control, with the center and right side under siege real bad. To top it all off the final Khorne Prince chose to show up and join this little party....

The arrival of the last Prince sends all the other Daemon forces into a fury to charge and get into combat....as Skarbrand jumps the center squad, the diminished Blood Crusher squad jumps the new nurgle reinforcements, and the older Bloodletters smash into my Nurgle Prince.....IMORTAL KOMBAT!

The battle is brutal as both Marine squads take heavy losses and my Prince is sent back to the Warp to join Big Stinky and friends.....I'll Be Back!

ROUND 5:

Not much is left of my force....as Combat is joined and I lose my last two squads to Crushers and Skarbrand...."Um....a Misunderstanding....Honestly! Here keep your skulls..."

"Somebody tell Scotty to Beam us out...NOW!"

So ends our little adventure this time....it's a good think I usually team up with my friend Dave in doubles tournaments instead of facing him....Team Dave never loses ;)

Battle Report: GDL vs Chaos Khorne Daemons (Part 1)

Well what way besides a good ole battle is there then to bring back the AH into the scene. I have a real awesome battle to report on! This weekend on a whim my friend Dave asked to test out his all Khorne Chaos Daemon army at 2500 points. I was in the gaming mood and said why not! We agreed to a fully painted army game as he has a massive daemon army and I had been watching him finish this Khorne force this past summer, I was willing to throw my army out there for some fun and destruction!

The set up was easy enough......

Background: After the game we came up with a funny story to the battle....Basically what happened, Khorne misplaced a few piles of Skulls, the GDL found them and was just hanging out there. Khorne chose at that time to send out Skarbrand and Skulltaker to assemble a force and hunt down those skulls....something about a rare marine captain skull being in the pile and that there was some sort of daemon recall on the skulls for further studies...anyways Whoops the GDL got caught in the middle of the hunt and the GDL step aside for no one...Green vs Red....FIGHT! ;)

ROUND 1:

Alright being a Daemon force of course my opponent doesn't set up, I also chose to go first since I won the roll off. I brought out every Plague Marine squad I have, including my latest and 6th squad into the party. I also had my new Greater Daemon of Stinky and my Nurgle Daemon Prince leading this crew, finally the party wasn't complete without my nurgle themed Oblits! Bingo nearly 2500 points of Grey Death fun! The set up was easy enough, and I went ahead and kept one squad of plasma loaded PMs in reserve along with Big Papa Stinky who is auto reserved.

He chose to ignore sizing initiative so I went ahead and began to move my forces to prepare for the coming Daemon assault. Forward to the piles of skulls the army went! GET THOSE SKULLS!

Then the Prince sensed something...a feeling he hadn't sensed since....

Khrone was in the house! With a mission to retake those skulls! An initial force of Bloodletters, Hounds, Khrone Daemon Prince and Blood Crushers landed in front of the advancing Nurgle forces. The forces of Khorne began to spread out and prepare for the coming battle....

ROUND 2:

Round 2 and I am looking down a sizable Khorne force, nicely painted but sizable that needs to DIE! The biggest threat was a Daemon Prince looking my Oblits down, he had to go down. So we called in some heavy hitter....Big Papa Stinky chose to join the party! He swapped spots with one of my champions, and it was off to the game. I continued to move forward aware that I had to lay down lots of firepower if I was going to survive the first round of combat with these Close Combat beast. After cutting down the numbers with lots of plasma and bolter fire, I turned onto that prince with my oblits for close combat. If they could hold out for one turn Big Stinky could join in and clean up that Prince easy enough.

Big Stinky needs to run faster! Meanwhile the marines lay down some fire on those Bloodletters!

FIRE! FIRE!!! Keep firing...My Prince was in full command on the front lines....

This is one of his converted Daemon Princes, the rider is just on the prince for the ride....ARGH! Already lost one Oblit! But I put a hurt to that Prince with my fist.....

Meanwhile on his second turn, more Blood Crushers join the party, along with Skulltaker and Skarbrand. Hold The Line, my Prince was ordering the marines......

Then it was assault time! It was on, the hounds led the charge and one of his Bloodletter units also charged my flank. The battle with the hounds ended in lock combat for me with my marines getting the better end of the deal. Meanwhile his Bloodletters swept my marines aside, with Skarbrand on the table the Hate was in high order for both sides. Combat was brutal and gory! Meanwhile the Khorne Prince continued to chomp away on the Oblits taking another one down, but the combat would end still locked as one oblit still remained alive.

On that note....we come to the end of Part one of this intense battle....Will Big Stinky make it in time to save the Oblit and put that daemon in a hurt locker....will The Nurgle Prince lead his force to victory....will Skulltaker finally take a skull....and will Skarbrand finally love instead of hate for once...these and many other questions will be answered next time....Enjoy! :)

Gamesday Baltimore 2010

Well Gamesday USA has come and gone...WHEW! I've been a bit quiet with my post on this blog because of the work I have been putting into Gamesday for my local club. I was asked to build and paint a 2K Valhallan IG Army for our 40K even the Hunt for the Red Orktoba. I can say that the mission was accomplished with a few days to spare, I am not a quick painter but to crank out almost 140 models in 2 and a half months is a miracle for me!

Still I had a blast at Gamesday this year running the Chaos vs Imperial Aeronautica Imperialis event for the club. The table was non stop air to air warfare all day long. In the end the forces of chaos were pushed back and the imperials were able to disable a chaos Landcarrier in the event!

Well what does this mean for the Anarchy....it means I'M BACK!!! Given a few weeks to recover from my paint fest I will be back on the saddle and working my chaotic force ready for the next great invasion! The Anarchy's Heart is out of the Warp and looking for its next target!

Forge World Updates Renegade&Heretics FAQ!

With the recent release of the Renegade and Heretics armylist a few weeks ago, FW has been nice enough to post a follow up FAQ to correct any errors and clear up any rules issues. In the FAQ FW states that the other 2 renegade list will also be reviewed in the coming months for revision reasons, so we might be looking forward to more list edited to current IG codex standards and 5th edition rules. Daemons Full Force Attack!

Raising a Daemon Army can be hard work sometimes. Lucky for me I had the Iron Painter to help me get about half of this force finished. The force is roughly up to 1500 points now, once the Daemonettes are finished. While I was going to finish the Masque in the IP, I was unable to do it then, but afterwards the following week I was able to put in a little time and get the second HQ choice finished now. The army still has a lot of work left to it but I don’t have plans on pick anything new up at the moment, I have plenty of daemons left in my inventory to add on to this force. I think next will be the Daemon Prince I failed to finish in the IP.

Iron Painter: The Aftermath

Well the dust has finally settled and after catching up on my much needed sleep I am ready to report the results of my Iron Painter. The event went off right at noon on Saturday and in total there were around 30 competitors taking the challenge. This is the most I have ever seen sign up in any of the Iron Painters I have been in the past few years. I spent all of Saturday painting away on the daemons, and putting most of my time into the Nurgle Greater Daemon since he was one of the principle pieces I wanted to finish first. Originally the GDN would serve my Grey Death Legion as the standard CSM Greater Daemon, but he would also now serve a secondary role as one of my HQ choices for my Daemon army. He was the first model I could totally say I had finished by the end of the day, with a little help from the GW Washes he was grimy and dirty ready to unleash his filth on the enemies of the legion!

After a while one gets really tired of painting, and in the past this has been a problem for me or not so depending on how I feel. Its late night and you need a distraction, so what to do….Simple! Line up a 10K Mega Battle of Nurgles Finest vs. the new Shiny Blood Angels! It’s 2 AM and I’m tired of painting for a while, and a good friend of mine offered to bring his blood angels out for a test drive in the new codex. We had a running joke about the new cover of the BA’s Codex where they are just stomping on Plague Marines. I couldn’t have such a stain (Pun intended!) on the honor of the Grey Death Legion so I had to step up and thrown down to see if the cover was right or wrong. Over the week we agreed to an all out grudge match, he has a huge BA army, and of course I have a large force of Nurgle CSM too. I sat down and began to work up a list for this clash; in one FOC I was able to bring 5K of Death Guard with some Alpha Legion support. I dug out all my nurgle forces Mortal and Daemons, along with The Red Reavers Alpha Legion raptor force of The Shredder and some support elements.

ARGH! Someone stop those Deep Striking Landriders! =(

The battle was epic to say the least; there was much death and destruction. The problem is that most of it was on my end, as my combined CSM force was mauled by the new Blood Angels. The Death Company was a crusher force, and I threw 3 squads of PMs and 1 squad of Lesser daemons and they still stood their ground. I used Necrosius as the character from the new FW Book, and he earned his status as he was able to take down Mephiston with his force weapon. The other BA HQ Astorath the Grim also suffered a horrible death at the hands of my forces. The end result was a total victory for the Blood Angels with only one Alpha Legion Rhino left on the battlefield at the end of turn 5. I guess we proved the cover was accurate after all, Damn!

Well with the game done it was back to painting, and since I had a good time with the game it helped me stay awake and eek out the last hours of the challenge! While I didn’t get all 1K points finished in the end, I still got over 500 points finished and was able to enter the final judging with a good size force of 1 Nurgle GD, 10 Bloodletters, and 14 Flesh Hounds. Having finished 25 out of 37 models I was happy with my results for the 24 hour craze. Now this force joins my already finished large Nurgle contingent of 21 Plague Bearers, Nurgle DP, and 8 Furies. I think I can safely say I can build a good size army out of this.

I still have 2 more Khrone DPs, 10 Daemonetts, 1 Slaanesh Herald mounted on a steed, 10 Seekers of Slaanesh, 1 Khrone Herald, a ton more bloodletters, 1 Tzeench GD, Skulltaker, and The Masque to finish now…..the army continues to grow!

Iron Painter: Daemons

This coming weekend the battle bunker is holding an Iron Painter weekend. Basically the bunker will be open all day and night for 24 hours. Hobbyist are encouraged to take part in a 24 hour paint-a-thon! The range of what you build and paint can range between 500 to 2K points, with a minimum of models for each 500 point range. At the end of this event the best armies will be judged to see who stands above the rest. This won't be my first IP, but I'm hoping this will be my best one yet. I will be taking part in the 1K points range with 37 models, and my army of choice this time....DAEMONS!!!

A recent addition to my chaos forces, I have slowly been building up my daemon forces over the last few months. With a large number of Plague Bearers and Furies now finished I am hoping to possibly build up to a 2K daemon force in the near future and add another force for chaos to my roster.

Cyclops Demo Team Conversion for LotD

One of the first units I learned to respect back when I played in an escalation league with an Elysian Droptroop army was the Cyclops demo tank. This little monster packs a nasty surprise with no scatter. It was an effective anti armor force when I used it in the Elysian’s, and I’ve converted one for the LotD. This one is made using a plastic epic landraider and a few bits of plasticard. Basically a remote controlled RC bomb, the operator is a renegade comm. Trooper with a laspistol, although now they are armed with a lasgun, the model still works for the controller.

Ratlings for the LotD (Part 1)

Thanks to a small find at the last yard sale at the battle bunker I got a blister of Chaos Squats. These guys come with their own cult mutation from each chaos power. So I thought why not work them into my legion army as counts as ratlings. They are short and give them a sniper rifle and they are good to go. So I’ve begun the process of converting these guys into a sniper unit for my LotD forces. With 6 models to work with, I have enough to make a decent size squad of snipers that can make any unit have a bad day. I have begun building some of them and giving them arms, as I finish the painting on some of them, I will give them their weapons and other arms. I think this will make for a neat unit that will add more chaos character to the army!

Nurgle Renegade Sentinel (Part 1)

Sentinels are useful to guard armies for many different roles. This time I am using it to support my Plague Marines when they assault out of the rhinos I plan for the army. Armed with a heavy flamer the sentinel will escort along the rhinos and light up any enemy it runs into. I going to use the 2nd gen sentinel aka “Jeep Sentinels” for this army. Here is the basic model built and ready to be armed, I gave it a bit of a grime look with the dirty washed camo green, and a few rust spots. Now to figure out how to best mount the heavy flamer…..

1st Nurgle Renegade Platoon (Part 1)

This past weekend I began the process of building the new Servants of Decay army. The theme will be a mercenary army working with the Grey Death Legion. A force of renegades to add more decay to my nurgle forces and nurgle is just always so much fun to build up too. Right now I’m just building up my basic line platoons for the army along with the only armor at the moment a lone sentinel. I’m testing a scheme for the army with this first platoon and the sentinel. A dirty and grimy camo green with dirty codex grey pants. Thanks to the new GW washes this is an easy enough job. I’ve been wanting to use my large surplus of old guard and imperial army models for a while now, but never had a worthy idea to use them in. They now have a new home as mercenaries, although I ‘m still working on the name of the army. With the random leadership of the army I think this will make the force a good theme and fun gaming force.

Alpha Platoon: LotD

Alpha Platoon is the first troop choice of my Legion of the Dragon forces. Armed with Autoguns, Flamers and Heavy Bolters the platoon is a regular line platoon. The Command squad is a full melta unit built for anti armor and support. The Platoon is now fully battle ready. When I use the Al’Rahem special character this platoon will inherit the heavy weapon squads from Zeta Platoon , usually 2 lascannon squads that need to be on the battle line and not outflanking.

Greater Daemon of Nurgle (Part 1)

Along with my recently finished Plague Bearers, I picked up this goodie. A metal Greater Daemon of Nurgle. After finishing my lesser daemons, I began the process of adding this awesome model to the forces of the Grey Death Legion. I've used my Daemon Prince as a Greater Daemon before and its a blast to use and the enemy run for the hills. Now its time to get a proper model for use as a Greater Daemon. While the ForgeWorld one is awesome looking, I wasn't going to pay for one yet, but this guy fills the gap real well. Now that the assembly part is completed, its time to paint!

Anarchy's Heart Motor Pool (Part 2)

A small update on my Alpha Legion transports. It's been a while and they have stat around long enough waiting for some paint work. I have given them a nice coating of necron abyss, and have begun work on the legion scheme. Last weekend I took one of the transports and finished it completely to get a good view of the finished product. I still want to put some transfers on the tank to add more to it then just the scales and blue.

The side of the finished tank, I washed some of the silver parts like the smoke stacks and the wear on the ramp to show rust and burnt metal.

The other two tanks undergoing painting, slowly but surly getting there...

Servants of Decay: 2K Renegade List

So recently I have been giving the Renegade and Heretics forge world army list a look over. When the first list came out in Imperial Armour 5 I was not impressed with it, and that list used the older edition of IG for its parent list. While I liked the idea of a renegade list, I chose to build mine based on the IG Codex, which leads to my current Legion of the Dragon, Alpha Legion themed infantry army. This new look into the R&H list is with the most current version "Servants of Decay" a nurgle themed list. Even though it still has that nasty leadership handicap, I like this list and the options it comes with. It's another cross between the Lost and the Damned and IG armylist with a bit of a twist. This list gives me an excuse to play with another FW armylist and also to theme an infantry force for my current Death Guard army to join forces with. So I drew up a 2K list using the R&H: Servants of Decay list found in IAV8.

Unifying the Undivided Chaos

So, Ron over at FTW put out a call for us blogger to post how we go about unifying our armies. For my CSM and Allies bases are perhaps the biggest point to a unified theme. My Alpha Legion, Legion of the Dragon, and Grey Death Legion all sport ash waste style bases, as does my Subjugator titan. Breaking it down a little more, both my Alpha's and Dragon forces are themed for the same army color theme. The Alpha Legion being a traitor legion, and the Legion of the Dragon being their auxiliary infantry troops. The paint scheme for both forces is also similar, with lots of blues and bolter being used along with greens. Enjoy the examples below....

Daemons are an almost unknown in all of the Alpha Legions battle doctrines, although as part of the codex it is an option to all chaos forces. Last year I got my hands on a box of the metal Chaos Furies Daemons when I picked up my Plague Bearers. So what to do with these guys, I can't even use them in the Daemons Codex really, so I though about using the squad as an additional unit for the Alpha Legion, more so for looks since its rare that I employ such units for the army. It didn't take me long to paint them up and I added a little green to link them with the Legion.

The Green gives them a little bit of a Dragon look.

Ineptus Astartes Club Battle

Another Game Day has come and gone this past weekend, and a good time was had by all. I was a little late to the battle, but I did bring my digital camera this time, and got lots of pics of all the action. I wasn't sure how big the battle way, but I'll guess it was easily somewhere around 6-7K. I only was able to deploy 1050 points of the Grey Death Legion. I didn't deploy a whole lot for the points, but I still got my new lesser daemons into the battle, as well as trying out a greater daemon. I really need to get on top of finishing my greater daemon, my prince wants to go back to being a daemon prince I think. Anyways, the mission was kill points throw down. we had one new member attend and wouldn't you know a new army hit the table, we finally got a Eldar player in the club who is willing to admit it. He took a beating for the first 2 turns and held out much better then me that's for sure. I was tabled and cleaned out by the time the games end came around. I guess that comes with being an assaulty type nurgle player. Alright then, lets check out some of the action!

Expanding My Blog Empire

Well it’s a new month, and I am expanding my internet Empire! Recently I’ve been posting a lot of imperial content on the blog, and with the addition of the Grey Knights last year it’s gotten larger. So now that this site has grown and gotten establish, I am expanding to add a new Blog. This blog will cover my many Imperial Projects, including such things as Titans, Aeronautica Imperialis, and even some xenos like Eldar. Since I will be very involved in my Club’s GamesDay 2010 project this year for the imperial side, I thought I would take that work to that site as well.

The site is going to be primarily an Imperial Guard site, since that is my most active of my imperial forces. The theme of the site will be the Rynn’s World conflict between Orks vs Imperials. This will also include my Crimson Fist space marines, and my older Rynn’s World Heavy Guard, that will be turning into the Rynnsguard IG Force. Inspired by the recent Rynn’s World novel as background this site will be a counter to the Anarchy’s Heart. As always enjoy and comment a lot! Thanks!

The Governor stood up as the marine captain and his second entered the office "Welcome heroes of the imperium, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our world." He said
The Captain looked at the Governor and nodded as he looked around and the office "I am Captain Galen of his most glorious Inquisition, Ordo Xeno and we are here to assist the local forces with your current xeno problem." He said
The Governor nodded "Yes, a new Hive Fleet has begun to assault our sector, segmentum command has begun mobilizing the local forces, but it's going to take some time, and our PDF is preparing for a possible invasion, Hive Fleet Hydra they are calling it."
"Our Salamander Chapter forces will soon follow I expect, for now we will begin making plans to hold out." The Alpha Legion commander grinned as he looked at the Governor.

One of the things that seem to fit the Alpha Legion style was sneaking troops and using them to flank your enemies. With the current codex the one unit that excels at this are Chosen Chaos Marines. They are an elite choice, so your limited to 3 units in the FoC, but still this unit has Alpha Legion written all over it. You can pack a lot of firepower into this unit and cause major mayhem with them once they outflank your enemy forces. Arkos chosen were notorious in the Vraks campaign for landing behind enemy lines disguised as space marines and crossing the lines into rebel territory to join their master. Legion also had a unit called Stealth Marines, that were elite Alpha Legion marines who used stealth to strike from unexpected directions. These two examples inspired me to build my own variant of the Stealth Marines in disguise, I took the Chosen Marine entry and built a squad to look like a unit of Ordo Xeno Deathwatch Salamander Marines. I broke out all the bits for this squad and armed them with everything Chosen marines are armed with, and keeping them in the guise of Loyalist marines.

History: Known for their skills in stealth and disguise squad RX-79 has conducted many infiltration missions behind enemy lines with success. Commander Galen has built a core of troops who have trained and fought together for so long that each marine knows his brothers move before they are made some times. Galen often will employ the disguise of the Ordo Xeno Deathwatch, because its a lesser known branch of the inquisition orders, while applying the authority it comes with to get behind enemy lines and accomplish their mission without giving themselves away to the enemy. The Salamander Chapter has for a long time known of this unit, but has had little luck tracking them down and wiping them out for all the offense they have cause in their name.

1st Stormtrooper Squad finished!

So here are the final results of my fist Stormtrooper squad. I’m considering adding some special weapons to the team in the future, possibly some Meltaguns or Plasma guns. I will also add on to the squad with a Rhino later on, for now they are walking along with the other grey knights.

The To Do List for 2010

Well it's time to sit back and take stock of where I stand and where I am going. Being the beginning of the year it’s a good time to make a fun To Do List of my most wanted projects to finish. March is rolling around soon, and this will mark 2 years since I took the dive into Chaos, and slowly I'm getting close to the magical 10K number of fully painted and based points. So many projects and so little time, but this is the battle plan, at least till the middle of the year when I will cook up a new To Do list to focus on. Of course this is never solid, as other things are bound to step in and take priority. The biggest issue right now is what I will be doing for our club to help out with in this year’s Games Day event. If I can finish at least half of this list victory will be MINE!

Reinforcements from the Warp!

My Grey Death Legion grew last month with the addition of 21 plague bearers as lesser daemons. During the last open customer market at the bunker I was able to score two squads of these little buggers in a good deal, along with a greater daemon of Nurgle. The GD is currently being built, but these guys were easy to paint up and ready for tournament use in my army. I've always wanted to field some demonic forces along with my Plague Marine troops, but I never had the right models to use with them. Using other none nurgle models never felt well, and I didn't want to convert something. I was hoping GW would make these guys in plastic soon, but then I got this deal and figured why not and got at least 21 daemons, which I can use in future Codex: Daemon armies if I should ever try that dex out for a test drive. With the ability to assault on the turn they appear on the table, these guys will be an annoying unit for anyone to deal with, and fun for me!

New Allies to the Anarchy's Heart

Arkos looked on as the Stormbird finally finished landing and the assault ramp slowly dropped down. "I believe these are the the new allies the High Command informed us of Captain Arkos" The Shredder said as they stood waiting for the envoy to disembark.

"The Markings reminds me of the Slaanesh Subjugator we saw in battle last year." Arkos said quietly. "Perhaps we were being tested then. This should prove to be an interesting alliance."

So after finishing my Subjugator last year, I gave some thought to creating a small Emperor's Children force to go along with my engine of destruction. After a few deals here and there, gathering up some bits online, and getting a cool mounted model for the commander, I began to scheme up this new army. The Subjugator provided the basic paint scheme of this new force. Here is my prototype model, the only one finished so far. I have a mix of both current noise marines and some previous edition ones too I plan to work into a combined force.

This is will be a change from the Grey Death Legion with more expensive models points wise. Noise Marines are the cheapest cult troops in the CSM Dex right now, and I think under-rated in my opinion. A good squad of these guys with noise weapons might be a boost to my regular Alpha marines in a battle, in terms of firepower alone. Along with the marines I have a squad of daemonetts I plan to add on as lesser daemons.

Hive Fleet Eclipse Awakens.....

This past weekend marked the return of one of my all time fave armies in 40K, TYRANIDS! When I first began playing 40K the two armies that stood out for me were IG and Tyranids, because of the movie Aliens being my fave movie of all time. Nids are just a fun and crazy change from the usual humans of 40K, be it IG or Marines. Due to my other armies being more of a priority to paint, I haven't given my bugs that much paint time. I just enjoy gaming with this army for the most part.

The new Codex is just awesome, the new background is cool to read. To read up on a Nid vs Necron battle is killer cool! Some of the Ork, Chaos Forces and even Daemonic forces under siege by these buggy monster was awesome to read about. The new characters and units now available have really spruced up this army a lot. Not to mention all the conversion ideas that are now floating about. Along with picking up a codex I grabbed up 2 boxes of the new Gargoyles, and a new Trygon. The models are some of the best and most unique product put out by GW. I have already built one box of Gargoyles and they look fantastic! My rolling horde of gaunts will be seeing time on the table soon once I digest this new codex. Can you tell I'm excited....

Among the few the things I got finished over the holidays was this battlescape terrain. I'm usually not an owner of a lot of terrain simply because I have an entire GW Battle Bunker down the road from my place where I can play with tons of terrain there, but sometimes a cool piece will catch my eye. This one was one of those, and I grabbed it up when it came out. I finally got around to finishing the work I started a few months ago, and here are the results. Now it's time to have some fun with the camera and some models, to show it off a bit.

The trees are all pinned to the terrain for ease of transport, and one of the sticking points for me for a while was what would the Rhino be painted. So this one goes out to all of those Ultramarine players out there. Heh Heh Heh! The Alpha Legion is here......

Dreadnought Baltar!

Baltar is the first dread I put together for my chaos forces. A standard metal Chaos dread armed with a Plasma Cannon, and close combat arm. I'm not a fan of the current chaos dread rules, but again its always a gamble when you put it on the table, especially armed the way this one is. I got him with what he had at the time, and had no other options, but I think the paint job worked out well and he looks great.

Arkos made his way out of the conference room, as Lord Bruticus joined him. "Well my lord has the high command given us new orders?"

"Yes Bruticus, inform our command to begin preparing for departure. We will be setting course for the Eastern Fringe, the High Command has given us orders to make contact with a group of humans in the eastern fringe who are not influenced by the Imperium." Arkos said.

"We get to battle the local Xeno filth?" Bruticus asked aware of his last posting in the fringe when he lost a lot of brothers to the Tyranid threat.

"Of course, and Emperor loving fools as well. Here are some profiles on the enemy forces we might meet." handing the data slate to Bruticus and continuing to his personal shuttle.

Well first off....Happy New Year and Decade to all.....The Anarchy's Heart is once more setting off on a new year! While on break I took the time to work on a few surprises for all to check out. On top of relaxing and reading up on Dark Creed, which was a great book even if it is about Word Bearer scum. I seriously suggest the trilogy of books if you want to read up on some good ole Chaos fluff.

Anyways on to matters at hand. The blog is officially back online! I got some terrain finished and more Chaos minions painted as well, so its not all about my Grey Knights as some have asked me. Heh! The local battle bunker had a garage type sale where customers sold lots of their old stuff off and I got some good chaos deals, especially for the Grey Death Legion. I will be posting more here soon. I'm also working on a lot of my Legion of Dragon IG forces now. I'm coming up on 2 years into my dive into chaos and I want to have at least 2K of that army finished before then. I also have plans to work on more of my Titans and Grey Knights. This year will be more laid back and mostly doing what I want to do, then building up a new army. Nids and Tomb Kings are both getting new codex and they are some armies that really interest me. Also I'm hearing rumblings of a new WHFB Core Rules coming out later in the year, so I might get motivated to work on my Orcs and Goblins full time finally. So there is a lot out there to catch my usual New Shiney Syndrome working.

On the club front, this past December we put in an order with Chessex and got some real cool custom dice made of the club logo. Check these out! Our logo is on the #1 of course. We're also planning on making our yearly trek to Games Day this year, and our master plan to take over all is in the works once more.

Finally here is a cool piece of fiction I created a few years ago for 40K which has finally resurfaced on 40KOnline. My fave IG army of course are Praetorians, so a few years ago I created my own guard background for my Praetorian regiment. The article is once more back up and edited for showing there. As a fan of Zulu, Zulu Dawn, and the Sharpe Books, I took a few ideas from that into my regiments background. After all who doesn't like Guardsmen with Pith Helmets and Lasguns!

Enter The Dragon Forge

WOO HOO! This week my Dragon Forge order arrived. I now have bases for my Grey Knights. I searched around the need for the last few weeks for some cool bases for my Grey Knights army. Most of the stuff was resin, but I did see a few plastic bases on here too. The problem was a lot of them were out of the country and I wasn't going to go that far for bases. A friend of mine showed me some Dragon Forge bases he was using on his Space Wolves and I took a look around the store site and liked what I saw. The price was well within what I expected for resin bases, and the product was very clean.

So I placed and order for 3 25mm bases batches of 10 each, and 2 of the 40MM type in batches of 5. I went with two different styles of bases the Ancient Ruins and Broken Wasteland texture. This way I can mix of the look of the army while still keeping somewhat of the same theme of hunting chaos. Since the Dread is already on a base, I didn't spend for him, but if I get another dread in the future it's possible I might to change it up a bit. The Stormtroopers won't get resin either, since I want to keep them generic, and I can paint up some decent bases for them.

Well now that I got bases it's time to get to work on them....I'll post pics soon of the finished models....until then...Enjoy!

Grey Knights Dreadnought

Well now that I have begun working on some Grey Knights and Stormtroopers lets add a little bit of armor to the mix.

Here we go with a Grey Knights converted Dreadnought. This bad boy came with the grey knights army built when I bought the army. The original scheme was a mix of metallic and purple, with a banner on the assault cannon arm. After a few days in a simple green bath, I broke out the Brass Etched pieces. I had originally gotten the grey knights forge world brass etched pieces for a small force of Ordo Xeno Deathwatch marines. Little did I know that later on the other cool brass bits would come in handy, like now. Anyways I got rid of the banner and tried to clean up some of the other glue spots where I can, all the inquisition iconography is brass bits. I even had a brass GK logo for the left arm. Since the grey knights have no dedicated dreads, besides the FW versions and I had this guy in the army I worked a little bit of conversion magic on him.

After a little bit of priming it was painting time. Again sticking with the same style as the grey knights I worked a mix of metallic to highlight the armor, and darker metallic for the working mech parts of the dread. I also went ahead and washed the moving mech parts with the Baddab Black wash to get the armor to stand out more. The brass was mostly painted gold and washed purple like the marines. I also worked in some reds and greens to help give it some extra needed color. The cannon was also painted black in the same style that my marines have their stormbolters painted. Finally I painted up the various lenses and sensors different to again add some different colors.

This dread is still very much in the WIP stage. I'm thinking about using the cooler chaos smoke launchers, and I'm unsure if I want to mount a spotlight or not yet. I would also like to add more purity seals to the armor and hull, it just doesn't look pure GKs yet. Heh! Anyways here are some more pics......

Notice the darker color of the "mech" parts compared to the armor of the dread. I also tried to give the leg pistons a little bit of detail with some brown wash to simulate the grease stains on the pistons.

Why do they call you Stormtroopers?

So recently I have been taking a break from working on my massive Chaos forces. This is because I have gotten a bit burnt out of all the Chaos. I also picked up a great Grey Knights army, and I am really enjoying painting the army at the moment. Never fear though, I will return to my chaos ways soon enough.

So I got the Grey Knights, and I began playing around with a sample list. One thing GKs lack are transports, and no the Land Raider does not count here. I mean cheap and reliable transports, I mean a Rhino! So I started digging around for a way to pull this off, and the current edition of the main rules solved this for me. Bring the Rhino to the field and everyone can use it because it's a transport, well the cheapest way to do this in points is by using Inquisitorial Stormtroopers. A simple 5 man squad can bring a Rhino onto the table, swap them out for the GKs and off they go. The army I got had no stormtroopers, but I do from way back. Heh!

I went and dug up the current edition metal Stormtroopers, the Cadian ones don't count right now. These metal models have been around for a while, and I had no plans for them at the moment, so they are now part of the forces of the imperial inquisition.

While I'm sure its been done many times before, I being the Star Wars fanatic that I am couldn't help but paint these guys into TRUE Stormtroopers of the Empire. When one mentions the name stormtrooper almost always the answer falls back to Star Wars. So here I had the chance to make it an even more fun project, and paint up some Imperial Stormtroopers for my Grey Knights(Hmmmm...Jedi Knights!?). I thought about painting them in the style of Clone Troopers from the prequels, but I went with the Classic Trilogy all white and black look. Perhaps in the future I will induct some Imperial Guard as Clone Troopers. Anyways, here is my prototype model, which took me a few hours to paint up. A simple black primer, with codex grey on the armor, and bleached bone white drybrushed on the armor and painted on after to finish the armor. Finally I painted a few details to add some more color to the model, and even painted the grenades in silver to stand in as Thermal Detonators. In total I plan on painting 10 of these guys, since I will be taking 2 units of 5 troopers and a Rhino each.

Never Leave The Warp Without Units

Recently Ron over at the FTW Blogger group put out a call for some thoughts to the lot of us bloggers about what unit in your army is a Must Have always. I've given it some thought about this and thought I would post my thoughts on this concept. I will stick to what I play most right now, my Nurgle Themed army, although I might add some notes on my other Chaos forces.

Putting aside the fact that I play a pure Death Guard army with nothing for troops except Plague Marines, one could say they are a must have. Although to be honest there really is one unit in the army that I have constantly worked into any list anytime, and that is my Obliterators. Point for Point these 3 monsters have always seen battle time in my Death Guard army list. The unit is always a fun one to field, and the amount of different weapons available to them is awesome, from a Lascannon to a Twin Linked Flamer there are so many weapons to chose from. Add to it the 2+ save with a 5+ Invuln save, and power fist assault in close combat, there is no reason why I shouldn't bring them in for my heavy support choice. Of course that's the game reasons, but I also put some creative work into them when I built them to fit my nurgle themed army. When ForgeWorld first posted Nurgle Ogryns, I started to see some sick looking Obliterators in my mind. I grabbed me up a set of them, and began hacking and slashing them into my Obliterator monsters that they are today. Yeah there are days when this unit rolls 1s and 2s all day long, or may have had the random plasma cannon round scatter into my own Plague Marines. Then again there are those days when you see nothing but enemy Rhinos on the other table edge and you unload every lascannon and either destroy or immobilize every one of them on turn one and make your enemy troops have to walk across the table to get to me. Heh! Yes this unit is a lot of fun for me, and you can always expect it to make it's slow and purposeful stalking appearance on the battlefield when the Grey Death Legion is on the march....

As for my other Chaos forces I have built some must have units for my Alpha Legion Lords to take when they hit the field. Mostly because they fit the commanders theme, and they are some fun nasty units that can turn entire flanks or the entire battle. Lord Bruticus terminator lord for example has his own retinue of Alpha Terminators that he enters into battle with. During a recent battle the unit came in behind an IG force and unleashed havoc on the enemy chimeras and IG command squad hiding in the back of the fire line. My other Alpha Commander The Shredder jump lord always has a unit of Raptors jumping into the battle with him. In the past he has gone hand to hand with Raven Guard Commander Shrike and it was an epic battle that saw the Shredder come out on top. Fun must have units while not always effective make it a lot of fun to play with these armies.

Grey Knights Of the Round Table

At the end of September I was able to cut a deal with a fellow member in one of the clubs I belong too. I got a whole pure Grey Knights army. In the past I owned maybe less then a squad, and I traded that away for some Chaos items I needed at the time. I've always like the look of the Grey Knights, they are some of the coolest models GW has ever constructed. Right now there are two main problems with owning such an army, first the Codex is ancient and out dated, second the entire Grey Knight line is metal. Like it's Witchunter counter part the army is an expensive one to build up. So when this deal came thru, for nearly 50 GKs and 25 GK Termies I jumped on it. I really did it for the models, and right now I am playing too much chaos to worry about the codex issue. I've liked the models and I wanted to paint them.

I like the original scheme that GW used in the codex. I've always been a fan of the shiny King Aurthur/Excalibur movie that came out back in the late 70s/early 80s where the armor was very shiny and polished. Another member of Team Dave agreed that such an army would be a cool thing to see, so I set about trying to mimic the effect on my new Grey Knights. Starting out with a Chainmail dry brush, I added on a layer of Silver Mithril for the chrome effect on the flat armor pieces of the Aegis Armor. The rest of the scheme is straight out of the codex for detail. With the gold lettering and purple wash and some more gold highlighting.

I've only finished one squad so far, and I still haven't based them. I am looking to possibly indulge in some Resin bases for the added cool factor. I've still to try out the scheme on some GK terminators. I'm also looking to add some Landraiders and Dreadnoughts to the force, possibly some Forgeworld bits in there.
